Introduction:
Whenever we plan to do business with people or a company, we must establish a rapore’ with them. I talking about someone must give an account about your reputation. Someone must and can speak on your behalf. My mother use to say years ago, “It’s not always what you know, but it’s who you know,” and that leads me to my first of two points.
Development:
Point Number 1: Having a Relationship
Point Number 1: Having a Relationship
In speaking about relationships, Webster’s dictionary says that relationships are a state of connectiveness between two people, or state of relatedness or connection by blood, marriage, or adoption. So in having a relationship you must become familiar with that person.
There was a movie that came out several years ago that talked about the word familiar. The name of the movie was called “Blade.” Wesley Snipes was a vampire that could walk out into the sunlight. He called the other vampires, those that he killed “familiars.” He had a special relationship with them because he himself was a vampire.
You become familiar with a person by spending time with them. You become familiar with a person by communicating with them. You become familiar with a person by doing things with them.
The more time spent with someone, the more familiar you are of them so therefore this comes full circle to building relationships. That’s why everybody in church is not in Christ.
The reason I can attest to that remark is because if the truth must be told, and I have to keep this thing real, everybody sitting in church has not established an intimate and defined relationship with Jesus the Christ.
I know I’m right because if they had that intimate and defined relationship, they would not say some of the things that they say, and they would not do some of the things that they do.
David knew very well about having a relationship with God. If we go back to the text, and look at the first verse of the 121 division of the book of Psalm it says, “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
David had to look towards the hills. He was looking where he had established a relationship. Well preacher I don’t see what you see. This message is for those who have an established relationship with God. But for those of you that don’t have that relationship, I pray that the Holy Spirit will enlighten your mind to do so.
David had been in some tough situations. I wish I had time to elaborate more on this but even when David was a twelve-year-old boy, he went up against the toughest soldiers there was. There was a soldier by the name of Goliath who was from the city of Gath.
Goliath was the tallest, fiercest, and the most feared soldier at that time. His height was about six cubits and a span. Since one cubit is about 21 inches, then six cubits x 21 inches come to 121 inches. Divide 121 by 12 inches (equivalent to 1 foot), which puts Goliath at 10.5 feet tall.
Because David had a relationship with God, he was able to stand. David had that special relationship with God called a covenant. That’s why he was able to stand there and face this giant with only five smooth stones and a slingshot.
Because of the covenant that David had with God, he was able to stand and confront a trained soldier of the Philistine army. I don’t think you feel me this morning.
Goliath was a trained warrior. He had a spear and sword that was specifically made for him. He was able to throw his spear further than any man and could throw it with accuracy. He had already killed many soldiers while in battle. He had a reputation of the fiercest, the most deadly soldier there was. Just to mention his name sent fear throughout all the land.
Because of the covenant that David had with God, He knew where his help and strength came from. He was able to ignore the chattering and laughter of the Philistine army as Goliath approached him for battle.
Because he had a relationship with God he was able to stand firm with this giant.
Because of the covenant that David had with God, he was able to slay the giant Goliath. David did not have body armor. David did not have a sword; nor did he have a have a spear. All David had was just five smooth stones that he got from a brook that ran through the valley.
Because of the relationship that he had with God, he was able to stand undefeated.
In life we have to trust and believe as David did. Because the bible says in Psalm 20:7, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.”
Point Number 2: (from the theme)“Going Back to the Power Source”
In the scripture, there was a question answered. The question was at the end of verse one. The question was, “[KJV] from whence cometh my help.” “[NIV] in where does my help come from?”
And knowing David, his response would be, My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” David knew quite well where his help came from.
Every now and then we have to look towards the hills. The hills are our power source. I’m not talking literally about the hills, but figuratively. I know that beyond the hills, beyond the clouds, beyond the skies, beyond the moon, beyond sun the, and beyond space, sits three men.
God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit. All equally powerfully, but yet working collaboratively together.
Even the cartoon character Superman had a power source. The sun was his power source. Whenever he came into contact with kryptonite, he would make flight back to the sun. He had to go back to the power source.
Whenever we get into a bind, we need to make our way back to the power source.
1. When we are in a tight situation, we need to go
back to the power source.
2. When our money is acting funny, and we don’t have
two nickels to rub together to make a dime, we
need to go back to the power source.
3. When our health begins to fail us, we need to go
back to the power source.
4. When hellhounds are all around us, we need to go
back to the power source.
5. When we have messed up and we are worried on how
to fix it, we need to go back to the power source.
6. When we loose our fathers and tears begin to
fall, we need to go back to the power source.
7. When we loose our mothers and grief covers our hearts, we need to go back to the power source.
8. When we loose our children to the gangs and
drugs, we need to go back to the power source.
9. When we loose our spouses, we need to go back to
the power source.
10. When we loose our jobs, we need to go back to the
power source.
Conclusion:
Just before I take my seat, I have some good news. Some of you may not believe in the power source. But I do have proof. There is proof in the power source.
The proof is in the pudding. Like the Brillcream commercial, “Just a little dab will do you.” There is power when you go back to the power source.
If you look at Psalm 103 verses 1-2 it says, “Bless the Lord oh my soul and all that is within me bless His holy name. Bless the Lord oh my soul and forget not all of His benefits.
I could go on and on about the benefits of God, but there is one that all of should not ever forget.
I’m talking about the benefit from the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus Himself had to hook up to the power source. He knew what was facing him. Jesus the Christ had to go and get a Holy Ghost Recharge.
He knew that with a recharge he would be reconnected with the Father. He knew that He would be able to face any and everything just by being connected with His Father.
When He left the Garden of Gethsemane, He took that walk down the road of Golgotha, to the Hill of the Skull, better known a Calvary. They laid him on that Old Rugged Cross. The soldiers had three nails. The nail driven into His left hand represented the Father that was in heaven, the nail that was driven into His right hand represented Himself, and the nail driven into His feet represented the Holy Spirit.
They hung Him high, and they stretched Him wide between two thieves. Jesus was still connected to the power source. While hanging on that Old Rugged Cross, He was still connected to the power source.
There were two thieves hanging there with Him. Both of the thieves were indeed the same, but yet they were very much different. The thief on the left, had an unrepentative spirit and the thief on the had a repetitive spirit. The thief on the left mocked Jesus the Christ. He did not believe that He was who He said He was. He said to Him if He was such a powerful Jesus, why don’t you take yourself down from this cross and take us too.
But the thief on the right had a repetitive spirit. He said to the thief on the left, “Don’t you fear God?” Jesus, if it is any way possible, when you get to your kingdom, please remember me.
Jesus was ready to give up the ghost, but since He was still about His Father business, he put death on pause. Just like when you hit the pause button on a DVD movie, you then have a still frame and when you’re ready for the movies to begin, press pause again and movie will begin to play.
Jesus said to the thief, on this day, you will be with me in paradise. Jesus told death, now you can do what you came here to do. Shortly after Jesus gave up the ghost. When Jesus gave up the ghost, He hung His head and died.
Some of the soldiers just knew that it was a done deal. Jesus said it is finished but for some they thought it was really finished. I cannot explain how this took place, but the Spirit of the Living God made a U-Turn. His spirit, went to a place called Sheol, better know as hell. Jesus was still connected to the power source.
When Jesus arrived at His destination, he looked Satan in the eye, and Satan you though that I wasn’t going to keep this appointment, but I’ve come to tear down all strong holds and to set the captives free. Jesus was still connected to the power source.
Jesus reaches over to Satan, snatches the keys of bondage and captivity out of his hands. Jesus rolls up His sleeves, and begins a revival in Sheol; He begins preaching all Friday evening, into Friday night. He keeps right on preaching into Saturday morning. Jesus keeps right on preaching into Saturday afternoon. Jesus is still preaching up into Saturday evening. He continues to preach into Saturday night.
Jesus continues preaching into Sunday morning. As time continues to move forward, Jesus looks at His holy Ghost watch and says, Satan, I’ve got to go because I’ve got another appointment. But I promise you when I return a second time, the Second Advent, I will be coming back to deal with you personally.
Jesus makes His way back to the tomb. I cannot explain how this took place, but something supernatural took place. As His spirit re-entered back into that cold hard body, the neurons of the brain began to fire up. They were ready to take electrical messages throughout the brain of Jesus the Christ. Jesus told the brain, brain tell my heart to beat. The heart began to beat. As the heart began to beat, the blood began to un-gel itself and it began to flow. The hearth pumped the blood from the arteries, from the arteries to the veins, from the veins to the capillaries. As the blood continued to circulate, the body temperature began to rise. You know when we die, our bodies become cold, hard and stiff. As the blood continued to flow, the body rose back up to 98.6.
THERE IS POWER IN THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST. As the temperature remained at 98.6, flexibility returned to his body. Ritormortis had to leave. Jesus began to moves his finger, He began to move his arms, He began to move his legs.
Jesus, still being connected to the power source, opened his eyes and looked towards the hills and said, Daddy, I’m ready. His father in heaven sent down the angel to roll away the stone.
Early Sunday morning, I said early Sunday morning. Jesus got up with all power in His hands. As he stepped out of the tomb he said Oh death where is thy sting? Oh grave where is thy victory. That’s why you sing the song, There is victory in Jesus.
But something else happen. There was another resurrection. If you take the time and look in Matthew, chapter 27, verses 50–53. Those that holy people or saints, were resurrected after Jesus got up wth all power in His hands.
