Matthew 5:14-16
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Tab 1)
We will concentrate tonight on verse 15 – A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
We talked last night about “Ye are the light of the world” or God’s need you – your body to be a light unto this world that is in darkness.
1. Soul – the dimension of man which deals with the mental realm. Man’s intellect. The sensibilities and will. The part that reasons and thinks.
2. Spirit – the dimension of man which deals with the spiritual realm. The part of man that knows God.
3. Body – the dimension of man which deals with the physical realm. The house in which you live.
Christ has light these candles they shall not be put under a bushel. The gospel is so strong a light, and carries with it so much of its own evidence, that, like a city on a hill, it cannot be hid, it has to be of God. It will give light to all that are in the house, to all who draw near it and come where it is.
II Cor. 4:6-7 (Tab 2)
For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
Let’s talk tonight more about the light in you. Did you know that God but himself in you?
If you read the New Testament – primarily the Epistles, you will find 140 references to in Christ, in Him, in Whom, through Whom.
For in Him we live, and move and have our being…Acts 17:28
Christ in you, the hope of glory. Col. 1:27
The revelation of God in you is necessary for us to enter into the type of relationship with God that He intended for His children to enjoy.
Reveal means – to unveil or make known through divine inspiration.
The divine life of God must be revealed, or unveiled to our souls – our minds, wills and emotions in order for us to enjoy intimate relationship with God.
If we get a revelation of who we are in God:
1. Motivates you as a believer.
Without revelation, you are not motivated by the love of Christ. Romans 6-7
2. Reveals the Living Word.
The apostle John knew Christ as the Living Word of God. John 1:1
As the Living Word, Christ lives in us and wants to unveil Himself to our minds, transforming our darkened thinking through His light. He does not just bring us information concerning the truth. That would only condemn us. Through revelation, Christ becomes truth to our hearts, manifesting Himself in our lives in that reality.
3. Revelation Activates God’s Eternal Purpose
Revelation is also necessary in order for us to walk in God’s eternal purposes. The apostle Paul prayed for all the faithful in Christ Jesus, “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom, and revelation in the knowledge of him. (Eph. 1:17).
We must enter into the unity with God’s will for our lives through divine revelation. Christ wants our minds to think His thoughts, our emotions to express His love and our wills to choose to allow His will to be performed in us. Such unity can only happen as we cultivate our relationship with Christ and become one with His eternal purposes through divine revelation.
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God? I Cor. 3
God’s purpose in ordaining temples is to fill them with His glory.
One of the major thing that will hinder you from receiving God’s revelation in you is prejudice.
Who Is On The Inside Of You?
Know, let’s talk about what is on the inside of you! God is in you! In our verse we read we are the light of the world. The light of God is in you.
Word “light” means “brilliance” or illumination.
Scientific evidence of light:
Light travels at a speed of 186,272 miles a second.
In one hour’s time – light travels 670 million miles
We see scientifically, that light is incredible. Without light we would be in total darkness. Genesis 1:1-4
God’s glory always appears as light or brightness.
John 1:1-14
v. 4 – God is referred to as light.
Isaiah 9:2; John 8:12; II Cor. 4:6; Rev. 21:23
Luke 2:9 – Glory – doxa
Glorious – doxa (Greek) – God’s self; revelation of Himself; all that God is; God’s brilliance; His light.
Shone round about – perilampo (Greek); means to illuminate all around; we our English word “lamp” from this.
The glory of God radiating from Jesus will illuminate (light) all of heaven; I John 1:5.
As air is the atmosphere of earth, so glory is the atmosphere of heaven.
Isaiah 6:3 (Tab 5)
And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
What did Adam and Eve wear in the garden? The glory of God.
If you allow the glory of God to operate through you:
1. It will bring an anointing of ease on your life.
2. It will bring you revelation.
3. It will bring a knowing.
4. It will bring perspective.
We need to become sons of knowledge. The glory of God is that it is His divine, manifest presence that dwells within us and is changing us as we yield to the work of the Holy Spirit. His glory – His manifest presence.
As we operate as the Body of Christ, the revelation of who He is in all His glory, the unity of the body of Christ will come – no denominational lines.
Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! Ps. 133:1-3
God wants to reveal His glorious church to the world. We are experiencing the beginnings of revival.
We need to realize the “I AM” on the inside of us.
