“THE NAMES OF JESUS CHRIST”
TEXT: Philippians 2:5-11
“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

I. MESSIAH (John 1:40-41)
“One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, ‘We have found the Messiah…’”
Assigned to Kings, Priests, & Prophets in Old Testament –
“Mashiach” Hebrew word for “ANOINTED ONE” (Gr. “Christ”)
Some do not understand what the anointing is –
NOT fast music or loud preachers
NOT running the aisles or shouting the victory
NOT confined to Pentecostal or charismatic services
What is the Anointing?
I Samuel 16:13 – “Then Samuel took the horn of OIL, and ANOINTED him in the midst of his brethren--
and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward.”
The Anointing is a POSITION that brings you into
the Presence of God!
Andrew went to his brother, Peter, and said,
“We have found the Messiah! The Anointed One!
THE PRESENCE OF GOD!”
You can’t have church until the Anointed One shows up!
Preaching will not be effective until the Anointed One shows up!
Singing will not touch hearts until the Anointed One shows up!
You will not see lives changed at the altar until the Anointed One shows up!
The Doctrine of the Messiah was something every Hebrew was acquainted with –
It brought a message of HOPE
It brought a message of DELIVERANCE SALVATION & PROMISE
The Anointed One still brings the same message today!
HOPE TO THE HOPELESS
DELIVERANCE TO THOSE IN BONDAGE
SALVATION TO THOSE LOST IN SIN
PROMISE TO THOSE DISILLUSTIONED
II. MEDIATOR (I Timothy 2:5)
“For there is one God, and one MEDIATOR between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”
The term –“ Mediator”, means, “he who stands between two parties” – He gets in the middle!
Many times God would send FIRE DOWN from Heaven and it would CONSUME the sacrifice—(displaced anger)
The Priest would place your sacrifice for your sin on the altar, KILL IT & BURN IT!
Sin separates Man from God – God loves you but hates sin—
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.”
So Jesus stood in the middle at Calvary, and took our sins upon His shoulders!
HE TOOK IT FOR ME!
Jesus stands between Man and Satan
-- drugs, alcohol, depression, Hell, temptation…
III. MASTER (Matthew 23:8)
“But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your MASTER, even Christ…”
a) 5 times the Apostle Paul stated that he was the “prisoner of Jesus Christ”
b) 3 times he calls himself “a servant of Jesus” (SLAVE)
c) Peter & John both referred to themselves as SLAVES…
1. Unruly slaves would wear rings that pierced the nose…
2. However, trusted slaves would have their ears pierced with the rings to show that they HAD THEIR MASTER’S FAVOR.
These Apostles were saying,
“We’re not unruly slaves, being pulling along by our Master, but we have our Master’s Favor!
Jesus is my Master in all things…
Jesus says,
“Leave it alone… bring it to me…”
CONCLUSION:
He is our Messiah – The Anointed One (the presence of God)
He is our Mediator – He gets in the middle of our troubles!
He is our Master – Leading and guiding His people!
