The Dreamer
Genesis 37: 18-20
18 And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him. 19 And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh. 20 Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.
His own brothers plotted to kill him for his dreams
They did not just want to kill him but they wanted to slay him
Slay – to kill with a weapon
Normally when you think of killing someone with a weapon it is a knife or gun or something of that nature but really for this particular passage they could have just as easily been talking about killing his credibility so that when he spoke his dreams he would sound like a madman instead of a dreamer
This may sound like a silly and simple concept at first but this is exactly what Satan is doing to many of us right now
One of the weapons he is using is our very own credit report
He is making us think with his weapon, “The credit report” that we are in such bad financial condition that there is no possible way that we can ever achieve the dreams that God has placed in our hearts
Jacob’s brothers did not just want to kill him but they also wanted to throw him in a pit
Pit – a miserable or depressing place or situation
This is just like Satan. He not only wants to destroy our dreams but he wants us to end up in a pit
Believe me brothers and sister the pits are full of dreams that people have allowed to be thrown in by Satan
We need not think that the pit is only a physical place but it is also a psychological place where the devil has hidden your dreams and you can not see any way out
In fact if you let go of the hand of the true and living God there is a possibility that no one will ever know that you are there
This was only the first bad and unfair situation that Joseph found himself in
I often wonder what Joseph did when he found himself in that pit
Since the bible doesn’t say then there is a possibility that we will never know
However it is completely safe to assume that he never let go of his dream or the hand of God
This is evident because he remained to have dreams when he was delivered from his situation
God has delivered some of us from some pretty bad situations and yet we refuse to be like Joseph and hold on to our dreams
It seems as if Joseph would have just as soon died rather than let go of his dream
Without Joseph knowing or asking for it his dreams had him in the world of trouble
You can not share your dreams with everybody No matter how much you want to be a blessing to everybody you can not share your dreams with everybody
Dreams are certainly real because God has spoken in dreams (Genesis 20:6 And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.)
Dreams are the images, thoughts and feelings experienced while asleep, particularly strongly associated with rapid eye movement sleep. The contents and purpose of dreams are poorly understood, though they have been a topic of speculation and interest throughout recorded history. (www.google.com)
If dreams were only associated with the fantasy world then there would be no way that God could ever use a dream to appear
God has been speaking to some of us for years telling us to go this or that way in dreams and we just sit there saying that this could not be God we hear
We continue to wait on a sign confirming that God has spoken these things in our lives just as many of us look for signs of the coming of the day of judgment (Matthew 12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:)
Jesus has already said that for some things there will be no sign
Joseph’s brothers wanted to blame the “supposed” death of Joseph on an evil beast but God has not created such an evil beast that will destroy their own kind just for the sake of evil
But my favorite part is this. When the brothers say Let us see what shall become of his dreams now
To me that was like planting a seed to a great oak tree and just standing back and watch the Lord do overnight what is known to man to take an hundred years
God can do it. He can make a fifty foot Oak tree appear overnight if it be necessary to prophet the kingdom
Though we may never see God do this and we should not fool ourselves by even asking but it is good to know that God can do whatever it takes to make the devil look like a fool for touching his children
This was the cue for God to show up and show out in the life of Joseph
Some of us need to know that the situation that we are in is only a cue for God to show up and show out in our lives
In Conclusion
Since God has all power what are contemplating by waiting until the time is right to make our move on our dreams. Never ever forget that God can do anything except lie (Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;) so if you have heard the voice of God concerning your dreams then you have the full authority and right to move forward with all confidence and power knowing that God is with you.
Let’s pray
Dear God, thank you. Somehow I have allowed my fears to alter my dreams. I have allowed the enemy to have a say-so about what is going to happen in my camp and I am taking back all authority right now. God I pray that you use me like never before for the uplifting of your kingdom. There is no way that I can even think to go another step further on this journey without you. I pray for your help right now Lord. I pray that you see fit to bless me and use me in a special way. Lord I take a moment right now to repent of my sins and pray that I am worthy to continue to be used by you for a vessel of righteousness sake. In your precious son’s Jesus name we pray. Amen
