And a voice from heaven said,
‘This is my Son, the Beloved, with
whom I am well pleased.’ – v .17
‘Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none; and whoever has food must do likewise.’ (Lk. 3:11).
The story of Jesus’ baptism raises questions meaningful to my own baptism:
• "What ought I to do?" vs. "When am I going to do it?"
The teachings of Jesus ...
• "Do you bless those who curse you?" (Lk. 6:28).
• "Do you give to everyone who asks you?" (Lk. 6:30).
• "Do you do good to those who hate you?" (Lk. 6:27).
• "Do you love your enemies?" (Lk. 6:27).
• Are you "compassionate as your Father is compassionate?" (Lk. 6:36).
The prescription for a meaningful life is----"Do as I do," Jesus says.
"This is My Son, the Beloved; My favour rests on Him" (Mt. 3:17).
• "I came not to be served but to serve."
• "You are here not to be served, but to serve."
• “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete" (Jn. 15:11).
CONCLUSION: Jesus asks, ‘Why do you call me “Lord, Lord”, and do not do what I tell you?’ (Luke 6:46)
