St. Mark 5:22-43
Topic: What to do when you are in a hopeless situation
In these passage of scriptures in St. Mark 5:22-43, we read about man by the name of Jarius, who was one of rulers of the synagogue who had a 12 year old daughter who sick at the point of death. The scriptures says that Jarius sought out Jesus and asked him to come to his house so he could lay his hands on his daughter so she could be healed and live. Jarius sought out Jesus to heal his 12 year old daughter because he saw Jesus not just a good teacher, not just a good man, but He saw Him as a healer. No doubt Jarius had heard some good news about Jesus being someone who can heal the sick, give sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, and cast out demons. And when he heard that Jesus was in the town, He sought out Jesus to come to his house to heal his 12 year daughter whom he loved very much. Now the lesson we can learn from Jarius in these passage of scriptures in that when you are faced with a seemly hopeless situation, you need to seek out the Lord for help. Just like Jarius when he sought out the Lord to come to his house to lay hands on his daughter so she can be healed., we need to seek out the Lord so he can help us when we find ourselves in a hopeless situation. Isaiah 55:6 says, “Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near.
Also St. Matthew 6:22 says, Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.”
And also it says in 2nd Chronicles 7:14 where it say, “If my people which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways: then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
And while Jesus walked with Jarius to go to his house to heal his daughter, there came a woman who had a issue of blood for 12 years. For 12 long years, this woman went from doctor to doctor with hopes to get healed, and she even spent all of her life savings to find a cure for sickness, but yet through it all, she was still sick. But yet she had heard that Jesus was passing nearby in her town, and she too had heard like Jarius that Jesus can heal the sick. So she said to herself, “If I may touch the hem of his garment, I shall be made whole.” Now when she saw Jesus, she saw him crowded around a whole lot of folks. Now this woman could have given up trying to reach Jesus because there was a whole lot of people crowding around Jesus. And technically she really wasn’t suppose to be in public because during that day and time, if a woman was diagnosed with a issue of blood, they were considered unclean, and prohibited from being in the public with the fear that if they touch somebody, they too would be made unclean. But this woman was determined to get to Jesus, no matter how sick she was , no matter how much pain she was in, no matter what men may say or do to her for being in public as a unclean woman. . And the scriptures says that she worked her way through the crowd so she could get close enough to Jesus to touch the hem of his garment. And when she touch the hem of his garment, the scriptures says she was immediately made whole from the issue of blood that had plagued her for 12 long years. When she touch the hem of his garment, Jesus stopped walking and asked, “Who touched me?” Now when Jesus asked this question, the disciples that we walking with him said, Lord, there is a whole lot of people crowding and pressing upon you. So why are you asking, “Who touch you?”
But Jesus said “Someone did touch me for the healing virtue had went out of my body.” And when the woman saw that she could not hide any longer in the midst of the crowd, she came forth testifying to Jesus that it was her that touched him because she had been sick for 12 long years, and she said if I could just touch the hem of his garment, I shall be made whole. And Jesus, upon hearing this woman’s testimony, he said unto her,“ Daughter, thy faith hath made the whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.” Now what we can learn from this passage of scripture is this: when you find yourself in a hopeless situation, just know you can go to Jesus anytime. It does not matter what day or the hour it is , you can go to Jesus to help you out of your hopeless situation. It doesn’t matter what type of hopeless situation you may be in, whether, it be sickness, financial difficulties, family problems, marriage problems, you can go to Jesus for your situation. And just like this woman had to press her way through to get Jesus, don’t let nothing stop you from getting to Jesus. Don’t let any man, any woman, any boy , any girl, and anything keep you from getting to Jesus.
After Jesus had healed the woman with the issue of blood, someone came from Jarius house to deliver some bad news. And the bad news that was delivered to Jarius was this: his daughter was now dead. While Jesus was on his way to Jarius’ house to heal his 12 year old daughter, she dies. Now if there was to be part two of this message, it would be entitled, “What to do when the hopeless situation get worse.” Yes, there are times when you are praying to the Lord for the hopeless situation to get better, but yet instead of it getting better, it turns for the worse. Here was Jarius walking with Jesus to go to his house to heal his daughter, but before he can get to the house, the daughter ends up dying.
But notice what Jesus tells Jarius upon hearing the bad news that his daughter had died. He tells him to “Not be afraid, but only believe.” In other words what Jesus was saying to Jarius was this: Yes, the situation looks grim and gloomy because your daughter has just died. But let not your hear be troubled, you believe in God, then you also need to believe in me because I am more than just a good teacher. I am more than just a good man. I am more than just healer. In case you have not heard, I am also the Son of the Living God. And because I am the Son of the Living God, all things are possible and that includes raising your daughter back to life again!
And likewise when we find ourselves in a hopeless situation that seems to get worse, instead of focusing on how bad the situation is, focus on who God is, focus on who Jesus Christ is and stay focus on the fact He is able to bring hope into a hopeless situation. He is a able to bring peace in a stormy situation. He is able to bring joy in a sorrowful situation. Yes, you may be in a hopeless situation that is getting worse by the day, but remember this that weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning because Jesus is able to turn any hopeless situation around!!!!!
Now the scripture says that when Jesus came into Jarius house, there were people in there crying and wailing aloud because Jarius’ daughter had just died. But when Jesus came into the house, he asked, “Why make ado and weep? The damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.” Now, it must be understood in these passage of scriptures right here that Jesus was not denying that the young girl was dead because she was indeed dead. But what Jesus was saying here was that since He was now in the house, they can stop crying now because He has the power to raise this girl up back to life again. And it is a blessing to know when you have Jesus in the house, God is able to raise up things back to life again. When got Jesus in the house, He is able to raise up dead marriages back to life again. When have Jesus in the house, He is able to raise up families that are torn apart back to life again. When you have Jesus in the house, Jesus is able to raise up dreams, goals, visions, and aspirations back to life again. When you have Jesus in the house, He is able to bring deliverance, healing, strength, guidance, hope, salvation, blessings, life, and many more. Instead of wailing and crying, when you have Jesus in the house, you ought to be praising Him for He is worthy to be praised!!!!!! You ought to praise Him for who He is, Praise Him for what He can do, Praise Him for what He has done, Praise Him for what He has already done, and Praise Him for what He is about to do!
But notice what happened when Jesus told them that the damsel was sleep. The scriptures says that they laughed at Jesus to scorn. They mocked him. They made fun of him. They talked about him. They made jokes about what he said. Now notice, these people first was crying and wailing aloud, But when Jesus made his announcement about the little girl, they laughed at him. And have you noitce that when you testify how mighty God is in your life, there are going to be some people that are going to laugh at you, put you down, make you feel like you don’t’ know any better, and so forth?
But noticed what Jesus did; he put the people out of the house. Now Jesus did not put the people out for his sake, but for Jaruis and his wife sake. You see, if they were going to believe that Jesus could raise their daughter back to life again, they did not need any distractions from the people who did not believe in the Lord Jesus . You see, there are times that you are going to have to separate yourself from people who are doubters of the power of God. You see those who doubt the power of God don’t have any power in their lives, and they don’t want you to experience the power of God in your life. They don’t worship and praise him. So they will try to keep you from praising him as well. They don’t come to church, so they will try to influence you form coming to church as well.
But notice this. Even though Jesus put the people out for doubting him, He still loved them. He still cared for them. He still longed to bless them. And likewise, there are going to be some people whom you are going to have separate yourselves from because they will try to influence you to go against God’s will, but yet you still have to love them, forgive them, and pray for them. But yet because they(the people) did not have the faith in him to raise Jarius daughter, he had to put the out of the house because the bible says “Without faith, it is impossible to please God, for he who cometh to God must believe that He is, and THAT he is a rewarder to them that diligently seek him.”
And the scripture says that when Jesus put the people out of the house, he then goes to the bedroom where Jarius daughter had lied dead, and he took her by the hand and said, “TAL-I-THA-CUMI, which is being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto you, rise, and straightway the young girl arose from the dead, and she started to walk, and everyone who saw this miracle was astonished., or amazed on how Jesus raised this little girl back to life again. And seeing that there are going to be people who want to know what had happened in the house, Jesus told the parents not to tell mo man what had just occurred to protect themselves from the onrush of sightseers, and after wards he told the parents to give their daughter something to eat.
Now notice that Jesus told the parents not to tell any one what had occurred in the house. Now the question is why? Well, the reason why is because when those people who laughed at Jesus when he told them that the girl was sleeping, when they will see the girl herself walking out of the house, going to school, playing with her friends, walking with her moma and daddy to the grocery store, walking with her daddy to the synagogue, they would know for themselves that a miracle had took place in their house. You see, you don’t have to go out and broadcast what the Lord has done for you. Just the fact that you are alive is a testimony in itself. Just the fact that you woke up this morning is a testimony in itself because you did not wake up this morning on your own but rather it was by the His grace, and mercy that we are alive and able to see another day.
Yes, Jesus able to bring hope into a hopeless situation. He is able to bring back those things to life that was once dead in our lives. And if we want hope in a hopeless situation, we need to have Jesus Christ in our lives, who is the hope of glory in our lives. Only Jesus can bring us hope in a hopeless situation! Only Jesus can bring us peace in a stormy situation! Only Jesus can bring us joy in a sorrowful situation. Only Jesus can turn a hateful heart into a loving heart! Only Jesus can turn a confused mind into a sound mind! Only Jesus can turn a defeated life into a victorious life! Only Jesus can turn a cursed life into a blessed life! Only Jesus can make your life whole!!! Only Jesus can save your soul! Romans 10:9 says, If you comfess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Jesus Christ died upon the cross for our sin and he rose again from the dead that he might deliver us and save us from our hopeless situation of sin. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.(Romans 6:23)
