Summary: Drink More Water

Drink More Water

john 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

Civilization has historically flourished around rivers and major waterways; Mesopotamia, the so-called cradle of civilization, was situated between the major rivers Tigris and Euphrates.

Large metropolises like London, Montreal, Paris, New York City, Shanghai, Tokyo, and Chicago owe their success in part to their easy accessibility via water and the resultant expansion of trade.

Where there is water, all aspects of life flourishes, you cant do without water in your life.

Every one of us has a mechanism in the natural called thirst.

Thirst is present because 66% of the Human body is made up from water and that balance must be maintained.

And very early in life we realize a truth, You can’t drink dirt or sand or even oil!

You’ve got to drink water

In order to maintain the water levels in the body there is a mechanism called thirst and it is thirst that instinctively keeps us from getting dehydrated. It’s a “built-in” safeguard. It’s automatic.

If the percentage of water goes down just 2% to 64.7% you are considered dehydrated and dehydration is a very dangerous condition

Dehydration generally results in delirium, unconsciousness, and in extreme cases death.

you experience thirst and discomfort, possibly along with loss of appetite and dry skin. you may suffer a loss of performance of up to 50%, and experience flushing, low endurance, rapid heart rates, elevated body temperatures, and rapid onset of fatigue.

It can be a very dangerous thing for a person to allow themselves to become dehydrated even 2%, so we regularly quench this thirst, most times without even realizing it.

The body does some things naturally, and being thirsty is one of those things because it never wants to get to that 2% mark

Having a God-breathed soul, humanity has a basic “thirst” for God. It was implanted by Him. It’s also automatic.

Psa 65:9 Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it.

But many times people in there seeking to quench there natural spiritual thirst fail to realize its just simple water that they need and they drink of things that don’t satisfy

Far too many persist in putting off satisfying this basic thirst for God, while others attempt to satisfy it with unclean “waters”, things that don’t satisfy and they allow themselves to go down just 2% into spiritual dehydration.

The scriptures declare in Isaiah 12:3 that with joy we draw waters from the wells of salvation and that salvation spoken of in Isaiah 12 is Christ

Many times people look for satisfaction in all the wrong places Isaiah speaks of things that satisfy not

1 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

2 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

Isa 55:1-2 KJV

There is a built in mechanism of spiritual thirst inside of us that’s thirsts for the waters of God that are not going to be satisfied by anything else, but like as in the natural, if the spiritual thirst is not satisfied we can begin to get symptoms of spiritual dehydration

If that basic thirst is not instinctively satisfied, a thirst that goes beyond our instinctive drive will develop and if that thirst is still not satisfied eventually we will develop some of the deeper symptoms of dehydration

Thirst is a funny thing, when our mouth gets dry, our body lets us know that something is amiss, and our thoughts will turn to and focus upon satisfying the thirst and that alone!

The only drink that has no side effects is water, coffee has caffeine, soda has sugar, beer has alcohol, juices have acids, and can build up toxins in your system but clean pure water has no toxins and will actually help flush impurities from your bodies.

But many times water is too simple an answer for many and they look to quench there thirst with things that are full of spiritual toxins

Many times people will begin to search for a satisfying “drink” from other sources – drugs, alcohol, gambling, fornication, money, etc.

They may even go to extraordinary measures to satisfy this thirst, focusing intensely upon satisfying a spiritual thirst through carnal means.

But they find these measures only provide temporary relief from their “thirst”, since the need is spiritual and the attempt to satisfy is fleshly. So, the thirst soon returns and is no less and, most times, stronger than before.

This is why pornography can never satisfy, because the thirst is never quenched because its not pure clean water, its some kind of toxic filled waste.

As physical dehydration worsens, a person starts getting confused and so it is in the spiritual.

Think of the man in the desert: he begins to see things – mirages.

He begins to run to anything that looks like it might satisfy his thirst. When he gets there.....it is gone.

He may have even bent down to scoop up some what-appeared-to-be water, only to find nothing in his hands or mouth but dirt.

Spiritually, people today in there spiritually dehydrated fueled confusion are flocking to anything that looks like the answer to their thirst.

They get so thirsty that they are ready to find anything to satisfy their spiritual dehydration.

The problem is that, by this point, the confusion is blinding and they can’t see that what they’re running to is a lie, a mirage, false doctrine. Like the mirage, when they get to what appears to be Truth and they get ready to gulp down that “living water”.....it disappears, it’s empty.

It was never real to begin with.

But there so confused they can’t even see the harm in it

If your confused today, be assured that confusion is not of God, and that if you would just drink from the well of Christ and receive some spiritual rehydration your confusion will pass as you keep drinking from that well that never runs dry!

The Lord said, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

Not knowing the God that gives real living water leaves people vulnerable to spiritual dehydration!

But spiritual dehydration is not only a problem for those far from god there are also symptoms of spiritual dehydration for the born again believer

In the natural dehydration causes a loss of endurance and a rapid onset of fatigue

If the dehydrated person doesn’t find water in time and the intense drive for thirst is not satisfied, the body begins to go into survival mode.

Body systems necessary for normal functioning begin to shut down.

If this is prolonged, most will lose not only the desire, but also the ability, to care about their condition.

They simply don’t want to and can’t care.

It takes too much energy

They are tired and unconcerned that their lives are drying up around them.

Spiritually, as a person continues to deny himself the living waters of God, the drive that previously pushed him to seek for the living waters becomes dull and ineffective because the strength is gone

They begin to shut down mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

It’s just not worth the energy to seek out the Source of the water needed to be revived.

The mirage in the desert has disappeared, and the place where he is left is vast and everything around him looks the same: like miles of endless, dry, arid desert.

Hope is lost; because of the confusion and the tiredness there is no future and no reason to continue searching.

They wander around aimlessly and, eventually, death becomes imminent.

Physical death will result from prolonged dehydration. But at this point, the recognition of how desperate the situation is must come from an outside source (person).

This person must either know how to help or be able to get the dying person to someone who does know how to help.

Emergency medical attention is crucial at this point! Or the person will die

The natural symptoms:

* Extreme thirst.

* Dry eyes; no tears.

* slow or no movement

* Feeling very tired, restless, or irritable.

Can all be related to spiritual conditions?

* Extreme thirst – looking everywhere but in the right places

* Dry eyes; no tears. – Unable to respond to the moving of the spirit

* Arms and legs that may feel cool to the touch – lost the fire and zeal for the things of god

* Feeling very tired, restless, or irritable –

* Lightheadedness that is relieved by lying down – you can pay attention in service

We must maintain our own fountain of living water by acknowledging the Lord in all of our ways and being full of the Holy Ghost, so that our Source will be constant and “out of our belly (heart) flows rivers of living water”!!

We must be a source for the world to drink of until they can receive their own “well of water springing up into everlasting life.”

There is an inherent danger of forsaking the living waters

For My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and dug themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water.

Jeremiah 2:13

they made reservoirs to store their replacement liquid, if you are not drinking from the well of living water you are drinking from some fleshly well

The ones in peril in Jeremiah’s day were God’s people.

We must always be alert to the condition of our own well and spring!

The word “fountain” indicates a spring, originating from a constant source.

A cistern is a well or a pit.

The LORD said the wells dug by those who had forsaken Him were broken, so they not only could not hold water, but having forsaken the fountain, there was also now no source to even bring water to these broken vessels.

How, then, can we guard against spiritual dehydration? A quote from a medical article regarding physiological dehydration gives as good an answer as any: “The best way to treat dehydration is to prevent it from occurring.” The psalmist seemed to have a good idea about preventing spiritual dehydration:

Psalm 42:1-2

1 As the (deer) panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

The NIV translates the last part of verse 2 as “When can I go and meet with God?”

Job 14:7 For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

Job 14:8 Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;

Job 14:9 Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

The writer is desperate to know when he can meet with God, the fountain of living water.

He not only knows who His source is but he was anxious to go meet with him

How bout you today, are you anxious to meet with God or are you down 2%

Do you lack spiritual energy and stamina, are you easily irritated, are your eyes dry and you cannot weep before the presence of God

Maybe you’re down more than 2% and confusion has set in, there’s no desire anymore to drink because it’s just too much work

Its time to take a good drink at the altar today

Eze 47 tells us that whatever the water touches lives
