INTRODUCTION
There are lights everywhere at Christmas. The tragedy is that most people are in darkness - spiritual darkness. But Christ has come to dispel it. He is the great Light of whom Isaiah spoke.
1. LIGHT IS PURE
There are no impurities in it. The Lord Jesus Christ has no impurities. 1 John 3:3 "...he is pure." Habakkuk 1:13 "Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity."
Guilty, vile, and helpless we;
Spotless Lamb of God was He;
“Full atonement!” can it be?
Hallelujah! What a Saviour!
2. LIGHT IS PURIFYING
It gets rid of darkness. So does Jesus. John 3:19 "this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God." Our world is full of spiritual darkness - Satanism, Atheism, Islam, Roman Catholicism, Mormonism, etc. Jesus came to get rid of such darkness.
3. LIGHT IS PURGATIVE
It is like medicine, especially to those who suffer from S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder). This condition is caused by lack of exposure to natural light. One of the best remedies is going for a walk during daylight hours, especially if the sun is shining. Jesus is ’medicine’ to our sin-sick souls.
The whole world was lost
In the darkness of sin,
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Like sunshine at noonday,
His glory shone in.
The Light of the world is Jesus!
No darkness have we
Who in Jesus abide;
The Light of the world is Jesus!
We walk in the light
When we follow our Guide!
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Ye dwellers in darkness
With sin-blinded eyes,
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Go, wash, at His bidding,
And light will arise.
The Light of the world is Jesus!
No need of the sunlight
In Heaven we’re told;
The Light of the world is Jesus!
The Lamb is the Light
In the city of gold,
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Come to the light, ’tis shining for thee;
Sweetly the light has dawned upon me.
Once I was blind, but now I can see:
The Light of the world is Jesus!
