Summary: David cried to have his heart restored with the presence, and joy of the Lord. We as indiviuals need that restoration and the Church needs such a restoration.

Restoration

Ps 51. 10 – 13; Ps 23: 1 – 3

V3 He restoreth my soul

God is a God of restoration, if nothing is seen in the O T you see God attempting continually to restore Israel back to Himself.

We see in the NT that that is the purpose of Jesus Christ dieing on the Cross and rising from the dead to restore what sin had stolen and what mankind had lost, fellowship with God.

We know from the life of King David that David had an affair with Bathsheba then killed her husband and tried to go on and act as if no one knew about it.

But Nathan the prophet confronted David about his sins.

David knew he was not in a right relationship with God.

David knew every time he laid his head on his pillow each evening

David knew each morning when he woke up.

According to Mr. Strong restore means; to bring back, allow to return, put back, draw back, give back…..

2 aspects I want to speak about today.

1. Restoring a personal relationship with God that has been lost.

2. Restoring the Church back to power with God.

Restoring a personal relationship

a. Ps. 51.1 we see that David cried for the Mercy of God, no matter were you have been or what you have done the mercy of the God is able to reach your heart if you will call upon it.

Ps 34:6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard [him], and saved him out of all his troubles.

b. Ps. 51.1 Blot out my transgressions, David did not like having to deal with his sin, but he did.

It seems it is difficult to get us to call upon the only one that is able to blot out our sins.

c. Ps 51:2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, there is no washing like the washing of the Lord, He will wash away even the darkest of stains of sin.

d. and cleanse me from my sin. God is the only one, Buda can not, all’a can not, what can wash away my sin only the blood of Jesus Christ.

Ps 23:1 The LORD [is] my shepherd; I shall not want.

:2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

One of the great truths to being Restored is to allow God to lead—the Spirit will draw—to bring back, to put back, God desires restoration.

It is when you and I try to lead our way that we get in trouble.

Jonah was going to lead and he ended up in the whales belly. He went to the bottom, he was bound by his surroundings, his soul fainted within him.

Jonah believed he knew a better way, he believed he knew what he could do and all the time according to Jonah’s own words he was forsaking the mercy of God.

Jonah is vomited out upon dry land, what an awful experience this must have been. Sometimes in need of restoration we go through some bad experiences.

Jonah 3.1 the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time. Hallelujah

Today you can be restored,

mercy can be found,

transgressions can be blotted out by the masters hand,

you can be washed thoroughly,

you can be cleansed from your sins

One of the greatest restorations that happen in your Bible is with a man that was a disciple of Christ, Peter was his name.

He denied that he was a disciple of Jesus and cussed in the time of Pilate’s judgment.

Peter walked out of there and knew he had died spiritually.

But after the resurrection Jesus said tell the others that I am alive and tell Peter also,

What HG convicting and convincing of the mercy of God.

Peter found restoration and preached on the Day of Pentecost and 3,000 souls are saved,

God can and will confirm His restoration in you, you do not hath to guess.

God restores when men and women cry out for the Mercy of God,

The Lord will lead you back

Follow the leading of the HS

The gentle wooing of the HG is not a lie.

Jonah is restored from disobedience

David is restored from an affair and murder

Samson is restored from backsliding from lustful affair

Peter is restored from cussing and denying he knew the Lord.

No doubt we can be Restored

David shouts aloud “He restoreth my soul”

Do you need restoration to fellowship with God?

Do you need restoring to a previous walk with God?

Point 2

The Church needs Restoration

Luke 15: 8 – 10 a lady had 10 coins and lost 1, it was only a 10th of what she had.

Has the church lost what she started with?

An anointing that convicted of sin, An anointing that healed the sick, An anointing that reached out to the hurting, that sent out missionaries and planted churches a church that manifested the power of God.

You can say that God does not do that anymore and I will tell you that the church needs a restoration. Acts 3.21 there will be a restitution of all things

I’m afraid that the church has lost more than a 10th

She swept and cleaned until she found what she had lost.
