Scripture
Ephesians 4:17-19 This I say therefore, and testify
in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other
Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having
the understanding darkened, being alienated from the
life of God through the ignorance that is in them,
because of the blindness of their heart: Who being
past feeling have given themselves over unto
lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with
greediness.
Prayer
1.In the vanity of their mind
Means the empty illusion of the life that thinks
there is satisfaction in sin.
2.Having been darkened in the understanding
Means that the lost man has lost his perception of
moral values.
3.Being alienated from the life of God, through the
ignorance that is in them refers to all mankind and
the rebellion of Adam which is inherited by all his
children.
Since man no longer communicates with God, he is
ignorant of the inestimable advantage of this
relationship. The result is a hardening of the
heart.
4.Who as being past feeling, have given themselves
over to uncleanness to a working of all uncleanness
in greediness.
Their continuance in this state of moral ineptitude
brings them down to the level where they have no
feeling or wrong doing. The are apathetic. The
resultant condition to plunge further into
immortality and lasciviousness. This vicious cycle
leads to a desire to go even deeper in sin. The
meaning is to covet the very depths of immorality.
Men in sin are never satisfied with sin. The become
abandoned to sin. Is not this the meaning of God
give them over to a reprobate mind.
Ephesians 4:20-21 But ye have not so learned Christ;
If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught
by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
Ephesians 4:22-24 That ye put off concerning the
former conversation the old man, which is corrupt
according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in
the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new
man, which after God is created in righteousness and
true holiness.
Ephesians 4:25-27 Wherefore putting away lying,
speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are
members one of another. Be ye angry, and sin not: let
not the sun go down upon your wrath: created in
righteousness and true holiness. Wherefore putting
away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor:
for we are members one of another. Neither give place
to the devil.
Ephesians 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but
rather let him labor, working with his hands the
thing which is good, that he may have to give to him
that needeth. Let no corrupt communication proceed
out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use
of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the
hearers.
Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of
God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of
redemption.
Ephesians 4:31-32 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and
anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away
from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to
another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even
as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
