The Best Is Yet To Come!
Luke 5: 1-11
This morning brothers and sisters I want to help to encourage you as we get started on this New Year. We have had some successes and some failures in the past year but there is one thing that I am sure of. I am sure that no matter what you are going through or what you have already been through and contrary to your beliefs the best is yet to come! A lot of times we go through our day-to-day routines and never change. We do the same things over and over. Our kids have the same problems again and again, and our spouses seem to treat us the same way day in and day out.
Sometimes it seems like we are in a never-ending struggle just to keep our heads above water. Brothers and sisters I’ve been on this journey compared to some only a little while, but one thing I have learned is that God won’t put any more on you than you can bear! All you need to do is hold on and hold out because help is on the way! You know I heard Sister Shirley Ceaser say on one of her songs that you are next in line for a miracle. There’s a blessing coming through, and it’s coming through for you and for me!
What I am trying to tell you brothers and sisters is that the best is yet to come! No matter how old or how young you might be. No matter how good or how bad things have gone. No matter how high or how low you have been in the past, the best is yet to come! You may have had some really good days in the past. You may have had some days that could have gone either way. You may have had some days that you would like to forget. But I’m here to tell you that the best is yet to come!
You may say well I’ve been here for all these years and it hasn’t come yet, but my brothers and sisters just hold on because the best is yet to come! You may seem to be in a bad situation, and seem to be down and out, but you have to remember that the best is yet to come! What you have to do is to hold on and just look up! You see as long as you try and fix the problem yourself you make things worse, but if you let God take control everything will be all right.
Brothers and sister you need to stop fooling yourself into believing that you are in something that you cannot get out of. The Bible says that when Jesus was nailed to the cross every sin that we have ever committed was nailed to that cross. Our sins have been bought and paid for by the blood of Jesus. There is an old song that says I know it was the blood that saved me. So you see God has already set us free, and brothers and sisters the best is yet to come!
If you don’t believe me just try Jesus! I’ve tried him and I know He’s all right! When you try Him see won’t He make a way out of no way! When you accept the Lord into your life the best is yet to come. If you don’t believe that the best is yet to come look at our text. This is a story about some men who were fishermen. The Bible says that as Jesus preached along the lake he saw two ships, and he chose the ship of Peter. The Bible says that he told Peter to go out in the lake a little further so that he could preach to the people.
As time moved on He finished His sermon, and looked at Peter and told him to cast out his net. You see before Jesus came, Peter and the others were having no luck catching any fish. Jesus looked at Peter and told him to drop his net and try again to catch some fish. I can imagine Peter looked at Jesus with a face of confusion and said to Him; I am a real fisherman this is what I do, and you are going to tell me how run my business. You know that’s how we get sometimes.
We feel we have it all under control. We think we know everything there is to know about the situation. But you see even though Peter may have thought that way he dropped his net, like he was told. That’s something we have got to learn to do when it comes to following Jesus is do as we are told. When Peter pulled it up he had so many fish until his boats couldn’t hold them all. You see church, God has blessings that we don’t even have room enough to receive. All we have to do is just trust Him and follow Him.
We must realize that no matter what the situation is God is in control! No matter how dark the night might get God is still in control! Even Job with all the problems that came upon him realized that the best was yet to come! Job said, “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God.” Job knew that even though things seemed bad, even though things weren’t going his way, even though he didn’t understand what was going on, the best was yet to come!
Sometimes our family and friends try to talk us out of trusting God. They try to tell us nothing good can come of what we are going through. They try to tell us to just become bitter and think about yourself only. But brothers and sisters when you have a relationship with God, I mean a real relationship, no matter what comes your way you hold on because you know that the best is yet to come! You realize that because you have been down and out before and in that time God brought you through that He is able to do it again!
Instead of stopping at your roadblock you keep on going because you know that God will take you through your roadblock! Instead of starting a pity party you get up on you feet and take God at His word, because He said He would never leave you nor forsake you! Instead of throwing in the towel you keep on fighting because you have God in your corner! All I’m trying to get you to understand this morning is that the best is yet to come! Hold on my brother and don’t give up hold on my sister just look up; there’s a master plan in store for you if you just make it through!
Brothers and sisters we all have had some good days and all of us have had some hills to climb! We probably will encounter some more bad days but oh my brothers and sisters, I guarantee you that the best is yet to come! Right now we may be having some aches and pains but bear with it because the best is yet to come! Right now we might not know if we’re coming or going but I tell you today that the best is yet to come! Right now we might feel that there is a dark cloud hanging over us, but brothers and sisters, there is a brighter day ahead because the best is yet to come!
Or maybe you are in a place where you feel everything is going just fine. Maybe you are already in a comfortable position. Maybe you think you don’t need anything else! Let me tell you right now there is still more that God has in store for you if you only follow Him! Sometimes God will take you out of your comfort zone to put you in a better place! Yes even for you the best is yet to come! Today is the first day of the best days of your life!
Brothers and sister God has more in store for you in 2004! God is waiting on you to let Him bless you! God is waiting on you to give Him the praise! God is waiting on you to look out the window! God is waiting on you to receive what He has in store for you! The Bible says that Jesus looked at Peter and told him if you think that’s something come follow me and I’ll make you fishers of men! If you think that’s something just hold on a little longer!
If you think that’s something I will and can do greater things than this! If you think that’s something, you ain’t seen nothing yet! If you think that’s something, just wait, the best is yet to come! The Bible let’s us know from this story that God has more to give us than we can ever expect to receive! If we just trust Him and follow Him we will find that the best is yet to come! I know that it is coming because He told me so!
He told me about His father’s house! In John 14:2 Jesus says, “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you”. He told me about the streets paved with gold! He told me about a place where there is no more heartache and pain! He told me about a place where there are no more tears and sorrow! He told me that He came that we might have life and have it more abundantly!
Just hold on brothers and sisters because the best is yet to come! I don’t know about you but I’m going to wait on my Savior! I’m going to wait till He comes! He’s coming back ya’ll and when He does I want to be ready! Will you be ready? Do you know that the best is yet to come? God is getting ready to blow our minds because the best is yet to come!
