Jesus Triumphs
Scripture Rev. 5 & 6
Introduction:
Revelation 5: 5 Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
Jesus has triumphed! This has troubled me all week. I kept thinking over and over what or rather why did he come back to heaven in triumph? What did he do? Why at no other time in history except at this particular time did he now triumph.
I believe the answer is in the book of Hebrews 10:11 - 14 Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God. 13Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, 14because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.
Transitional:
The key verse being verse 13 Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, This is where Jesus triumphs.
I. The Footstool of the Lord:
1. What is the footstool of God?
2. Where is it located?
3. The answer is in Isaiah 66:1 This is what the LORD says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.
4. Jesus waits for the perfect moment.
5. The timing has to be right.
6. He waits patiently at God’s right hand.
7. Until the day comes for the rapture to take place that only God knows.
8. Mark 13:32 - 37“No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 34It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with his assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.35“Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. 36If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. 37What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’”
9. So Jesus waits until God the Father gives the nod that it is time to take his children home.
10. Jesus redeems, he rescues mankind from off the earth and thereby leaving His enemies alone on His footstool as the only inhabitants left to experience the wrath of God through the seven seals.
Transitional:
Jesus will finally put an end to sin and triumphs over His enemies that have been made his footstool in this Jesus triumphs.
II. Jesus triumphed:
1. He died, he rose and he triumphed over the enemy.
2. Satan is and always has been a defeated foe.
3. Jesus the perfect example for us as Christians to live a holy life showed us how to be victorious over sin.
4. Now in the near future we won’t have to worry about sin anymore.
5. Daniel 9:24 “Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy.
6. This is the reason John wept in chapter 5 verse 5.
7. No one was worthy to open the seven seals to put an end to sin and bring in everlasting righteousness.
8. Part of his salvation plan involved saving his people from the wrath of God.
9. What God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit endeavored to do in the Garden of Eden has come full circle.
10. It wasn’t that God made a mistake in the garden and just corrected it.
11. No, he brought to himself created beings who withstood the evil and temptations of this sinful world to truly love him with all their hearts in spite of the allurements of this present world.
12. These are the people he fulfilled all the promises of God through
13. Those that love Christ and freely chose to love and serve him are greater servants of God than Adam and Eve before the fall.
14. In order to truly love someone we must go through the test, trials, heartaches, and pain to come forth shining in faith and in trust in the God of heaven.
15. True love will do whatever it takes, give up whatever is required to go the extra mile.
Transitional:
Jesus has triumphed he is the only one who beat the devil at his own game and won.
III. He Alone is Worthy:
1. Because through his suffering and the shedding of his blood he purchased men for God.
2. He defeated Satan… in the wilderness… on the cross …in fact in everything he did.
3. By living a perfect sinless life in total obedience to the Father’s will he is worthy to receive the scroll with seven seals.
4. He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords and on his head are many crowns.
5. All the angels in heaven a 100 trillion of them saying in unison worthy is the lamb.
6. The fact that all the angels are in heaven means all Christians are in heaven at this time before the first seal is revealed letting lose the anti-christ in revelations 6 verses 1 and 2.
Transitional:
So Jesus is the only one worthy to take the scroll so he opens the first seal.
IV. The First Seal:
1. Revelation 6:1- 2 1I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, “Come!” 2I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.
2. The person on the white horse held a bow with no arrows he appears to be threatening hence he is nothing but a deceiver.
3. This person is the anti-christ.
4. Satan who gives his powers to the anti-christ has already been stripped of his armor in Luke 11: 21, 22 “When a strong man, (Satan) fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe. 22But when someone stronger (Christ) attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor in which the man trusted and divides up the spoils.
5. Jesus stripped Satan of his powers on the cross.
6. Colossians 2:15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
7. The anti-christ will use deception all throughout his campaign.
8. Yet he was given a crown.
9. He was given permission to conqueror and he was bent on conquest. Just Like Job
10. Some have thought the rider to Jesus.
A. The side notes in my Bible says Christ victor for this particular verse.
B. We know Jesus to have many crowns in Revelation 19: 12 so no crowns or crown has to be given to him.
C. Also in scripture Jesus is always shown using a double edge sword never a bow and arrow.
11. The only one bent on taking or attempting to take it back would be Satan.
12. Through his servant the one doomed to destruction.
13. 2 Thessalonians 2:3 Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.
14. He will appear to be a man of peace making an agreement with Israel for seven years shown in Daniel 9:26 - 27 The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed. He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on a wing of the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him. “
15. He will make a peace treaty with Israel for seven years in the middle of the seven years he will break the agreement and proclaim himself to be God.
16. He will cause everyone through his false prophet to worship him.
17. Revelation 13:11 - 18 Then I saw another beast, coming out of the earth. He had two horns like a lamb,(false Prophet) but he spoke like a dragon. 12He exercised all the authority of the first beast on his behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed. 13And he performed great and miraculous signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth in full view of men. 14Because of the signs he was given power to do on behalf of the first beast, he deceived the inhabitants of the earth. He ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived. 15He was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that it could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. 16He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, 17so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.18This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man’s number. His number is 666.
V. The 2nd Seal:
1. The 2nd seal in Revelation 6:3 When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” 4Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a large sword.
2. The man on the red horse is a man of war.
3. He will start World War III.
4. As in Daniel 9: 27 War will continue until the end.
VI. The 3rd Seal:
1. Revelation 6:5 - 6 5When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. 6Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “A quart of wheat for a day’s wages, and three quarts of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!”
2. Food will be scarce during the tribulation.
3. Prices for food will be sky high causing inflation.
VII. The 4th Seal:
1. Revelation 6:7 - 8 When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!” 8I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.
2. Over a seven year period these horsemen destroy one fourth of the earth’s remaining population.
3. No wonder the scripture’s say that hell enlarges itself it says in Isaiah 5:14 Therefore the grave (KJV renders this word Hell) enlarges its appetite and opens its mouth without limit; into it will descend their nobles and masses with all their brawlers and revelers. By Hilton Sutton in His book Revelation
4. Many may laugh this off as some fairy tale.
5. However when many people suddenly disappear their cars empty, their jobs vacant, their clothes left behind just exactly as they were prior to their disappearance then you will know everything that I have told you today is God’s truth.
