A Good Start
1This is the family tree of the human race: When God created the human race, he made it godlike, with a nature akin to God. Genesis 5:1 (MSG)
21 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. 22 And after he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. 24 Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away. Genesis 5:21-5:24 (NIV)
I. Enoch walked with God (Genesis 5:22 and 24).
22 And after he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters.
24 Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away. Genesis 5:22&24 (NIV)
A. It commenced at a point in time.
1. At age sixty-five.
2. After the birth of Methuselah.
B. It continued through time.
1. For three hundred years.
2. He consistantly walked with God.
C. His walk communicates timeless truths.
1. Agreement (Amos 3:3) and Fellowship (I John 1:7)
2. Separation (To walk with God meant that he did not walk with those in opposition to God.)
3. Satisfaction (Psalm 84:11)
4. Conformity to God’s will
5. Self-denial
6. Commitment
It is great to know that Enoch walked with God, but it certainly is great to know that God walked with Enoch
2 He went out to meet Asa and said to him, "Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you. 2 Chronicles 15:2
II. Enoch was well-pleasing to God (Hebrews 11:5-6).
5By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. 6And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:5-6
A. Enoch’s faith was a necessary ingredient to pleasing God.
B. Enoch’s faith produced a proper testimony.
C. Enoch’s faith protected his relationship with God in a sinful society.
D. Enoch’s faith prepared him for worship.
1. Believe that He is (the existence of God).
2. Believe that God rewards (the activity of God).
III. Enoch was a witness for God (Jude 14 and 15)
14Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men: "See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones 15to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against him." Jude :14-15
A. Enoch proclaimed the second coming of Christ (14).
B. Enoch proclaimed judgment on false teachers (15).
1. Their works ("deeds... committed")
2. Their words ("speeches" or "things"... "spoken against Him")
We find Enoch preaching a hard message for a hardened people.
