BLIND SOLDIERS
2 KINGS 6:15-18
When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “O my lord, what shall we do?” the servant asked. “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” and Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes so he may see.” then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. As the enemy came down toward him, Elisha prayed to the Lord, “strike these people with blindness.” So he struck them with blindness as Elisha had asked.
Have you been in a situation where you find yourself in an activity you least understand? Or in a journey that you had not planned to go? The disciples of Jesus found themselves asking these questions when in John 13:2-7 when Jesus started washing their feet. The Lord Jesus replied and told the that they do not realize what he was doing but would later on understand.
I have been in circumstances which are hard to comprehend, some are painful and touching yet I trust the companionship of His Majesty, and the Lord has continued showing me the relevance of such a situation- you may have been rejected, by a spouse, divorced, sacked, sick and frustrated yet in all this, I believe the Lord has a purpose for you, in as long as you remain faithful to Him. Just be patient and you will understand later.
A friend of mine found himself in such a situation. Out of nowhere he realized that he was to speak in the church, being a lay preacher. In actual sense, he was not scheduled to preach that Sunday but deep within himself felt that he was to. And he therefore started rummaging through the Bible for a convenient message. He continued searching until his family went to bed. Still, he had not found the message. He went on browsing through the scriptures until past midnight- still he couldn’t find a relevant message for the Sunday service he was not scheduled to preach!
Then he heard people talking all over his compound and before he could engage them in a conversation, the men , who happened to be robbers, blew out the security light. He thought of screaming, but I he restrained himself since an African man has got to face situations like a man. It is even sad for the father to scream in the presence of his daughters! Then they crashed the glass pane on his front door with a stone, as they were determined into getting into the house. The lay man remembered that he had a bow and some arrows in the house and so he thought that the time to use them had come. He picked them up and was prepared to shoot incase the need arose. Then one of the robbers shouted to the rest to flee as he had seen the owner with bow and arrows, ready to shoot, and they all left. It was then that the family gathered round to see examine the damage caused by the robbers. The amazing thing was that the front door had not been locked and they robbers could have entered so easily had they turned the door knob on.
It is amazing how God works things out. The man was struggling in search of a sermon which he was not scheduled to speak. God was preparing him in readiness for the thieves who were planning to attack him. He couldn’t understand why he was not getting a sermon even past midnight. We too, struggle with the Spirit of God and at times we see the devil instead of the Lord. We fail to be patient and rush over as if the world is overtaking us. We must learn to be patient so that the Lord can be able to teach us. We must learn not to complain but wait for the Lord to reveal the purpose of His ministry within us.
