HOW TO MAKE A REQUEST TO GOD?
TEXT: Matthew 6:9-13
Topic: Prayer
This passage Matthew 6:9-13 help us on how to pray? It is the given pattern of Jesus to his disciples on how to pray to the father? A pattern given to us which is not from our mouth alone but only from our heart. Our prayers must be in the inner core of our heart and let our heart worthy to him. Let us try to expose from this passages on how to make a request to God?
From verse 9-10 “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” This first words of prayer is an heavenly worship or words which millions of angels also proclaiming the Glory of our God (Rev. 19) Jesus want us to be like angels having the heart to give glory into His kingdom. God accepted our worship of praise even we are in imperfect nature because he understands our state of being imperfect but it doesn’t mean for us to practice sin in all the time. In the sight of God we are righteous because He forgives our sin and He sanctifies us with His Holy Spirit. God wants us to be Holy. The mouth of the Holy man is smile to God and He really loves them. God is still God even we’re not to worship Him but it is the will of God to man to give pleasure unto Him.
From the words “Your will be done,” another words of submission unto God. Jesus teaches us to pray with the humble heart. We are not asking to sovereign god not to small God. He is much known for what is good for us in short He has much better plan than us. Humble heart is necessary to prayer.
“Give us today our daily bread.” God knows everything we need and He is willing to provide it. Possibly from this phrase or area have two things to be considered. “Our daily bread.” It can be our food or our basic needs as cloth, shelter and house. God is already provided this things and it is ours to work for it. But still God wants us to say with Him all of our needs and to have favor unto God. “Our daily bread.” Also it can be our Spiritual needs. We need the word of God as our Daily bread for our Spiritual maturity. As Christ said; “not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” It is true that the word of God, we can live. His word is powerful to every saints of God.
“Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors,” another phrase for the cleaning of our heart. To make a request from God our heart must be in tune and purified like a pearl. The things hinder our prayers are in our sin, from our wrong motives, it is not God favor and our small faith. To be effective in prayer, we Christian should be trust in Him and let his will be done must be in attach to our prayers.
“And lead us not into temptation,” a prayer with supernatural protection from God. We must pray always to be not tempted. As Jesus said to his disciples before He was crucified. God allows temptation to be done for the testing of our faith and now we should pray always and asking for his guidance. He will help us to refute temptation of the evil. Temptation is everywhere and they are all around us but they have no power to snatch our faith because we are all truly controlled by His hands.
“But deliver us from the evil one.” Evil is in the heart of man because of its corrupted heart, conscience, mind and all aspect of our personality. But now Christ delivered us from evil and He will lead us from His Christlike-Character. The evil one have no space to grow in our life if we are always drawing near to God.
“For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.” From other version of the Bible it can’t be seen but for the other gospel have this phrase. It is for the kingdom of God reign forevermore. Be our life style is to bring glory to God always.
“Amen.” Amen is a Hebrew word meaning right, true or correct. It is not the end of our prayer. This word is a word with built in Hope. There’s a hope that God accepts our prayers and listen from our prayers. This word is another give glory to God for all the things he has done to us “Amen!”
Prayer is beneficial and truly proven in many times and a thousand of years ago.
