TITLE: THE ANOINTING OIL
TEXT: EXDOUS 30:22-26
INTRO: ILL. A young man sets sail years aho across the sea. He wakes to find that the ship is hardly moving. Asking the captain why the ship is barely moving the captain tell him that during the night they had lost the wind. "So how is it that we are moving?" The captian tell him that the ship is attached to two small boats by ropes. Sailors have filled the small boats and have oars and are rowing with all their might. "We are sailing by the ash winds" The oars are made of ash wood.
For the last 25 years the church has been sailing with the ash winds. We have been moving, but not with the power of God driving us we have been trying everything under our own power. The time is short we don’t have time to keep barely moving we need the power of almighty God to fill our sail with the anointing of His Spirit and propel us forward.
The Devil has propagated the lie that we are no more to have the moving and power of the Holy Spirit in our lives or in our churches. But we are to substitute programs and personalities, packaging and educational degrees for the unction of the Spirit of God. We cannot function with out the unction of the Spirit of God blowing in our direction.
We don’t have time in these last days to try and sail by the ash winds, with 32 committees, 47 new ideas, 24 constitutions and 14 formulas for success. There is something in this preacher’s heart that says, GOD I WOULD RATHER HAVE THE HOLY GHOST THAN THE SLICKEST CAMPAIGN THAT ANY GROUP CAN PUT TOGETHER.
I have been in this thing for almost 40 years and I have seen the spirit poured out, I have seen people filled with the power of God’s Spirit. It was true then and it is true no; any thing that God does is NOT BY MIGHT NOR BY POWER BUT BY HIS SPIRIT SAITH THE LORD.
I. JESUS OUR EXAMPLE
A. Jesus is our example, He never did anything in the Natural.
- Jesus was not sensitive to the trends of His day
- But He was always sensitive to the voice of the Father
B. Everything Jesus did He did through the Anointing
- Was Jesus God in the flesh? yes
- Was He God in the manger? yes
- Did He do any miracles in the manger? no
- Was He God growing up in Nazareth? yes
- Did He do any miracles in Nazareth? no
Joh 2:11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory;
- He knew the Word of God so much that he confounded the Priest in the temple at the age of 12 BUT He had no miracle ministry
- Not until the Jordan river
- Not until the Spirit came down as a dove
- Not until the after the desert experience did he do any miracles
- 30 years as God and no miracles
- But as soon as the anointing came upon Him He began to do miracles.
C. Until we find a secret place with God and come into a personal relationship with the anointer of the Holy Spirit it is all sailing with the ash winds.
D. 120 in the upper room
- No bank account
- No sound system
- No a/c
- No video system
- With all the tools the modern day church possess yet the early church had something that we need today, FIRE sitting on our heads
- The wind of God blowing through their soul
II. THE SAME ANOINTING AS JESUS
A. Our name (Christian) comes from that anointing
B. Christ – Anointed one
- Our attempts are feeble at best
- It is the anointing that breaks the yoke of bondage
- It is the anointing coming upon a sin hardened soul that brings salvation
- It is the anointing that delivers the captive
- It is the anointing that makes the vilest sinner clean
Isa 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
C. We are not anointed because the spirit is on us; The Spirit is on us because we are anointed
- If we were anointed because the Spirit was on us the only time we would think we are anointed is when we felt the manifestation of the Spirit on us.
- The Fact is that if the Holy Spirit has come into your life you are anointed 24/7
1Jn 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you
- The word abideth means to permanently remain never to leave
- You are anointed where ever you are/ what ever you do
• preacher you are anointed to preach
• teacher you are anointed to teach
• worship leader you are anointed to lead worship
• Mother/ Father you are anointed to raise children
* Church nursery workers are anoited to care for those babies.
* Chair straighteners are anointed to straighten chairs.
• Worker you are anointed to bring glory to good through the excellence of your work
• NOT THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING BUT THE POWER OF A POWERFUL ANOINTING
• You are anointed
• SAY IT “ I AM ANOINTED”
III. THE OIL
A. Oil in the Old Testament typifies the anointing of the New Testament
1. Given by God
- The Lord spoke to Moses
2. You don’t get it from Degrees (not that I don’t appreciate my degree.)
3. You don’t get it from learning (read all the books that you want on the Holy Spirit)
4. You don’t get it from your denomination
Rom 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
B. There was an exact pattern
- When we do certain things that God said to do you will walk in the anointing
- We will mot experience the Power of the anointing in our services if we do not observe the protocol of the Holy Ghost
• Worship in Spirit and in Truth
• Come with an expectation (attitude)
• Freedom for the Spirit to move (NOT IN THE BULLITIN)
• Hunger for God
• Purity of Heart/Holiness
C. It still works - verse 31
- We have made an art form of pleasing people
- We have forgotten how to please God
• No more pleading prayer for souls
• No more altar calls for repentance
• No more preaching on sin
• No more time on the agenda for the moving of the Spirit
- Nothing wrong with making folks comfortable but at what price?
- Nothing wrong with touching people with a spirit of excellence
- But the main thing must remain the main thing.
- We are here to give God glory & honor & He can do whatever He desires
• I refuse to fall into the deal of slick packaging
• That refuses to preach on the blood
• That refuses to preach about the cross
• That refuses to preach on dieing to flesh
I AM NOT SEEKER SENSITIVE I AM PRESENCE SENSITIVE
D. It will not anoint flesh - verse 32
- Not your abilities it is the anointing
- Not your packaging it is the anointing
- Not your presence but your anointing
- Not your wisdom but we are full of wisdom because we are anointed
- There are mighty men and then there are men that know their mighty God
