Speak to Mothers- re-envision/reinforce their role.
The role of a mother reaches beyond the home.
Mothers must recognize the profound power
they have in molding human souls, not only for
the difference they will make in this life, but
also to prepare them for eternity.
Pastor Doug Batchelor
Clear example today- children- 5/6 years old- being
trained to blow themselves up for their God.
One mom- son sentenced to prison- killing a catholic- glad that her son was serving Allah in prison.
We know Allah is a false god- a demonic stronghold.
This woman felt like she had deposited a sense of the
eternal and the purposes of God into her child.
Christian mothers- need this type of vision as well.
This can be an emotional topic- you may …
have good/bad memories of your mother,
have grown up not knowing your mother,
be a mother who has lost a child,
be a woman who always wanted a child,
have had an abortion in the past and regret it.
Yet the position of mother is the greatest
natural office the Creator has passed to His
creatures. It is the most important and
challenging responsibility in the world- and one
deserving of great honor …
Pastor Doug Batchelor
The idea of motherhood- the sacrificial love a mother
has for her children- speaks of a Divine Creator.
The position of a mother is a God-given office.
It takes a village to raise a child.
In one sense- might have some truth in it- the idea of- support from extended family members,
institutions that support family values,
one generation building into the next generation
Yet God has established parents as having primary
responsibility for their children.
Institutions in society are to assist what the parents are called to do- they are not to replace parents.
Parents have the responsibility to instill into their
children a reverence for God/sense of the eternal.
To a very great extent the mother holds in her
own hands the destiny of her children. She is
dealing with developing minds and characters,
working not alone for them, but for eternity.
(Patriarch and Prophets)
Families- influenced by today’s philosophy- we are to
indulge children so they are happy/entertained.
Teach children- self-government, not self-indulgence.
Pr 16:32 He who is slow to anger is better than
the mighty, he who rules his [own] spirit than
he who takes a city. AMP
J. Edgar Hoover, former director of the FBI …
Given discipline, young people will learn selfdiscipline; given training, they will learn to live
useful lives. In almost every case the failure to
develop character is directly attributable to a
lack of proper influence and guidance in the home.
Teaching children to submit to your will is essential if they are going to learn self-control.
Many young mothers give their children too much
freedom too early- very hard to take back.
Jochebed (Num 26:59, Ex 6:20)
Her story begins w/story of the Jewish midwives …
Ex 1:15-21
Midwives- women who did not have families.
Because they feared God over men, God honored
them and gave them families.
God will likewise take care of women today who
serve Him with all their heart.
Ex 2:1-10
Jochebed- had a few years to shape the heart of her
son- then- given back to Pharaoh’s daughter.
She was able to instill into her son principles that
would govern his heart in the years to come.
Heb 11:24-25
24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up,
refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s
daughter, 25 choosing rather to endure illtreatment
with the people of God than to enjoy
the passing pleasures of sin, NASU
Bible- contains promises we can hold onto …
Pr 22:6 Teach a child how he should live, and
he will remember it all his life. TEV
Mary, the Mother of Jesus
Mary- from Hebrew word that means bitterness.
Mary- not bitter- but as a mother- experience bitter
sorrow because of- the destiny chosen for her son.
Luke 2:34-35
34 And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary
His mother, "Behold, this Child is appointed for
the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign
to be opposed- 35 and a sword will pierce even
your own soul … NASU
Mary would suffer much as she watched her own son
misunderstood, mistreated, and finally murdered.
God committed the care of His Son to a human
mother to nurture and train.
Lk 1:32 "He will be great and will be called the
Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will
give Him the throne of His father David; NASU
Mary knew that she only had Jesus for a short time to
raise and He would go off to do His Father’s will.
God places- love in a mother’s heart- protect her child
That same love must then release the child they love
to go and fulfill God’s purpose for their lives.
All children are a gift from God and should be
raised for a greater work, that they might
reflect the very image of God, serve Him, and
fulfill the purposes of God in their generation.
Pastor Doug Batchelor
Moms- give your children a sense of the eternal.
Life- more than eat, drink, be merry, and then we die.
Acts 13:36 "For David, after he had served the
purpose of God in his own generation, fell
asleep, and was laid among his fathers … NASU
Conclusion
Let me encourage moms …
A well known doctor was asked …
Can you isolate any single factor that
determines what a person becomes?’ Without
hesitation he replied, ’His mother.’ Hans Selye
Thank you moms- you are doing a wonderful job.
