A Star is Born
Many of us remember the movie a star is born, but in all history I can only recall a star ushering in the birth of anyone. There was a star shining the night that Christ the Lord was born. Yet this star meant different things to different people. What does this star mean to us? How does it relate to me? How can I relate the star to others? This advent season? Luke 2: 34 Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “ This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against.
I. To those who are comfortable
A. Christ interferes with their plans
1. Plans of their kingdom building (Herod’s kingdom)
2. Plans of the way they should think things are. (Herod was happy as king)
B. A new King means change. People would rather put up with a bad king they know than a king they do not know.
II. To those who are looking (The farmer and the two pigs)
A. Are not caught by surprise
B. Have a great expectation for the coming of the king
C. Will receive Christ with all their hearts
III. This story applies to me how?
A. We must not consider this world our home that can change in an instance
B. We must not be caught up in doing the things of God, and then miss him when he does appear in our lives. Like the teachers.
C. Christ has come to establish a kingdom, His kingdom; we must be about our Fathers business.
D. We must allow the Spirit of God to operate.
Conclusion: The Star has been born what are you waiting for, what better way to celebrate Advent by giving Christ your life? There are people who sit on a pew and never know Christ as their Savior? What are we waiting for?
