Compassion of Christ
Matthew 9:35-37
February 11, 2007 AM Sermon
Beginning of 2007 Evangelistic Push
How much does Jesus really love you and I? Words cannot really describe the love that Christ has for us. As a matter of fact, the love was culminated on a cross at Calvary – where Jesus shed his precious blood for our sins – for our shortcomings. This love was drawn out of His compassionate heart for other man. Although He was despised and rejected of His own people – He still loved them. As a matter of fact, He still loves you and I today. No matter how ridiculous you and I behave and act – He still loves us. He may not love our actions – but He loves us.
Today, I submit to you a message on how Jesus Christ can help you in your life!
TEXT
I. How Jesus Sees Us
a. Weary
1. Weariness to the point of being “burdened down” with all the cares of life.
2. Weariness to the point of carrying and harboring sin in our lives. In other words, holding on to what should be turned over to God in repentance.
3. Weariness to the point of trying to search for a hope
• Notice what Matthew says:
o Come unto me
o I will give you rest
o My yoke is easy and your burden is light
• What a promise – He says He’ll take care of us – only if we allow Him to.
b. Worn Out
God comes in where my helplessness begins.
OSWALD CHAMBERS (1874–1917)
i. Majority of the people in the world today are suffering from fatigue from their jobs, family issues, and just being plain unhappy.
ii. I submit to you this morning of this fact – from a personal standpoint. If you are out of the Will of God and not doing what He wants for your lives, you will be the most miserable person on the face of the earth.
c. Wandering
• True Happiness comes only through Jesus Christ.
Jesus sees what we are facing today:
• Physical Trials
• Financial Trials
• Mental & Emotional Trials
• Family & Relational Trials
See text, verses 36 & 37 – same things, different time period
II. What does Jesus want to do for us?
a. Take the weary and worn out and give REST
i. Matthew 11:28-30
Notice what Matthew says:
Come unto me
I will give you rest
My yoke is easy and your burden is light
What a promise! He wants to take care of us!
b. Take the wandering and be their SHEPHERD
i. Isaiah 53:6
1. All we like sheep have gone astray – each one of us have turned to his own wicked way. – Isaiah 53:6 (paraphrase)
c. Take the trials and provide guidance to get through
i. Psalm 145:8
The LORD is gracious and full of compassion,
Slow to anger and great in mercy.
ii. Isaiah 30:18
Therefore the LORD will wait, that He may be vgracious to you;
And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you.
For the LORD is a God of justice;
Blessed are all those who xwait for Him.
Remember how Christ showed compassion on the multitudes?
Feeding of the 5000? That’s what He desires to do with you and I
III. How can I let Jesus help me?
a. Admit that I am a sinner (1 Timothy 1:15)
b. Believe in Jesus as Savior (1 Timothy 1:16)
c. Conform to His purpose for my life (1 Timothy 1:12b)
Are you in need of a compassionate touch today?
