Summary: God’s army is looking for a few good men to serve on active duty.

Subject: Wise Men still seek Him

Sub topic: Still looking for a few Good men

Scripture lesson: St. Matthew 7:24 - 29

In the book of St. Matthew 7:24-29, Jesus, in his sermon on the mount explains that there are only two types of foundations on which a man’s character or integrity can be built upon. Jesus states that “Whosoever heareth these sayings of mines:” and here is where the difference comes in. Both of these men hear the word, but one hears the word and does it (verse 24), the other hears the word, and chooses not to do it (verse 26).

The Wise Man

The man in verse 24 is likened or better compared to a wise man who builds his house on a rock. This man not only builds his house, but his entire foundation and premise is built on this rock. His marriage, his finances, his family, his life, his loves and passions, his praise, his worship, his faith, his word, and everything is built on this rock, and that rock is Christ. This is the man who knows and understands that his complete existence has to be built on something or someone greater than himself, and he is wise because he choose that someone to be Jesus Christ.

Society, the church, the world is looking for a few good men.

Society, the church, the world is looking for a few praying men.

Society, the church, the world is looking for a few fasting men.

Society, the church, the world is looking for a few steadfast men.

Society, the church, the world is looking for a few morally correct men.

Society, the church, the world is looking for a few bible packing, scripture cracking, Holy Ghost filled, praise dancing men of God.

The Foolish Man

The man in verse 26 is likened or better compared to a foolish man who does the same as the wise man by building a house, but he makes the wrong choice in choosing a foundation. He chooses to build on sand. Here is the man that has built his entire life on things. His life is built on his job, his family, his loves and passions, his marriage, his finances, and anything else that he has obtained. The problem with this is that the moment that one of these areas begins to fail or experience problems, his whole world also begin to crash. His life is like a house of cards. This is why he is called the foolish man.

Enlistment

The Marine Corp. has a saying that says “looking for a few good men.” God’s army is also looking for a few good men to fight the good fight of faith. We need men who not ashamed to stand up and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. The problem is that too many men are not pulling their fair share. There is a song that says “I am a soldier in the Army of the Lord,” but instead we have reservist.

Reservist:

We have too many men who are reservist, and not on active duty. They have become reserved in their prayers, fasting, and their praises. The Lord’s army recruits active duty only. Being a reservist is unacceptable, because the world needs spiritual active duty men. Spiritually reservist men are the ones with all the excuses why they can’t serve.

The world needs spiritual warriors like the men of David’s army who proved themselves in the swelling of the Nile River. These were warriors, men of valor, who fought the enemy with both hands.

We need men of prayer like Daniel, who prayed with lions all around him. He never lost sight of the fact that God was able to deliver him. He never lost sight that the battle was not his, but the Lord’s.

When we should be praying (I Thess. 5:16-18) we are at Parade Rest or standing at ease.

We have gotten comfortable with the world, and we are at ease in Zion. In the military there are some terms that can be used to better describe our men.

Men on Casual Status: These are the men that are not quite ready for war. They are getting ready, but they are not ready. They were spiritually injured by something or someone, and they are still recovering.

Mess Hall Men: These are the men with issues that they are still struggling with. These are the men still crying over some woman, can’t stay sober, can’t stop cheating on their wives, can’t stop gambling, they are just a mess.

Hurry up and wait Men: These are the men who can’t make up their minds. They are not sure if they want to be married or single, can’t decide if they want to live saved or not. They not sure if they want to be straight or gay. They can’t make up their minds. They refuse to grow up. Paul said when I was a child, I thought as a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

Good to Go Men: God is searching for men who are good to go. Men who are ready to serve, and who are good to go. Men who have put on the whole armor of God.

Sword in hand, and Good to go

Breastplate of righteousness and Good to go

Feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace and Good to go

Loins girded with truth, and Good to go

Helmet of salvation, and Good to go

Shield of Faith, and Good to go

Men who are ready for battle, and Good to go

Men who are prayed up, and Good to go.

Wise men still seek Him, and the army of the Lord is still looking for a few good men.
