A. Driving Chariot Furiously Because He Was A Man With A Mission
1. God-ordained mission - Cleanse the land from house of Ahab
2. What is your mission, your meaning, your purpose?
a. until you find it, easy to drag and drift through life
b. find it, everything is much more ordered
c. each of us has a mission – a purpose
B. Watchmen Saw Him Coming From A Distance
1. Couldn’t make out the exact identity of the person – not within speaking range – but could easily recognize the characteristic of the driving
a. may have been a cloud of dust
b. may have been the sound of horse hooves
c. may have been vague outline of arms flailing passionately
2. People are watching from a distance
a. what do they see?
b. not in your words, your explanations, but in your actions?
c. your actions, your behavior proceeds your words
3. “Furiously…”
a. Hebrew = crazy
b. not recklessly – he got to his destination
c. God has not called us to be
- reckless
- bad temperament
- loose cannon - (note Galatians 5 “Fruit of Spirit”
d. Jehu had an eager spirit
e. Jehu was intent upon accomplishing his mission
g. Jehu was found pushing forward with all his might
h. God has called us to a level of living that is
-God driven
-purpose driven
-not in a shell
-but out there – some element of abandonment
i Godly level of risk – in life, in relationships
j. driven…
-not from deficiency – compensating for past
-not from tyranny of urgent – we’ve procrastinated
-not from tyranny of peer pressure – to conform
-but a Godly element of drivenness
II. CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOD-DRIVEN CHRISTIAN
A. Resisting Furiously
James 4:7-8 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
B. Praying Fervently
James 5:16-17 The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
C. Witnessing Boldly
Eph 6:20-21 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
D. Serving Passionately
Luke 16:13 "No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon."
E. Listening Intently
Prov 19:20 Listen to counsel and receive instruction, That you may be wise in your latter days.
F. Living Convincingly
Romans 8:38-39
G. Confessing Honestly
1 John 1:9-10 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
H. Giving Freely
Matt 10:8 Freely you have received, freely give.
I. Forgive Mercifully
Matt 6:14-15 "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
J. Receiving Gratefully (say “Thank you”)
Jonah 4:6-7 And the LORD God prepared a plant and made it come up over Jonah, that it might be shade for his head to deliver him from his misery. So Jonah was very grateful for the plant.
K. Worshipping Profoundly
Rom 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
L. Acting Promptly
Mark 2:14 As He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, "Follow Me." So he arose and followed Him.
M. Planning Courageously
Prov 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish
N. Confronting Humbly & Meekly
Gal 6:1-2 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.
