Summary: We as Christians are called to Christian Service. We are saved to serve. He wants us to serve Him as son or daughter with that type of relationship. However, also as a servant. This outline shares the five callings of a child of God.

Christians are called to Christian Service.

John 1:12

I. God calls us first to son ship

(John 1:12 KJV) But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

A. As His Children we are part of the Family of God

1. This is the relationship and position He calls us to have in with Him.

2. He will give us direction because we are His children.

(Rom 8:14 KJV) For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

B. The world is looking for an answer and God wants it to come through God’s children.

(Rom 8:19 KJV) For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

D. As His children the best is yet to come in our relationship with the Lord.

(1 John 3:1 KJV) Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

(1 John 3:2 KJV) Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

1. What a day that will be with the trumpet of the ages sound and we will rise and be like Him.

II. We are also called to be servants.

(Mat 10:24 KJV) The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.

A. Being a servant brings greatness.

(Mat 20:27 KJV) And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

1. With God faithfulness is greatest with God.

a. One day while I was praying, I asked the Lord to use me in a way to bring Glory to Him. He spoke to my heart and showed me that greatness with the Lord is not how big? How wonderful? How many? but that His measuring stick is FAITHFULNESS!

On that last day when we stand before Him, He will ask only how faithful we were with what He gave us to do.

Mat 25:21 KJV) His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

III. Third we are called to be good stewards

(Titus 1:7 KJV) For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

A. Not only do the ministers of God have this responsibility but the whole church.

B. To be a good steward is to be faithful to God, His Word, Family, and Church and to all people.

IV. We are also called to be soul winners.

A. Winning souls is very wise thing to do.

(Prov 11:30 KJV) The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

B. It is wise because God loves all souls and wants them to be saved.

(Ezek 18:4 KJV) Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

1. Jesus is the Shepherd and Bishop of our souls.

(1 Pet 2:25 KJV) For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

V. We are called to be a soldier of Jesus Christ.

(2 Tim 2:3 KJV) Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

(2 Tim 2:4 KJV) No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

A. We are engaged in a spiritual battle and need the whole armor of God.

(Eph 6:10 KJV) Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

(Eph 6:11 KJV) Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

(Eph 6:12 KJV) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

(Eph 6:13 KJV) Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

(Eph 6:14 KJV) Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

(Eph 6:15 KJV) And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

(Eph 6:16 KJV) Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

(Eph 6:17 KJV) And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

(Eph 6:18 KJV) Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

(Eph 6:19 KJV) And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

(Eph 6:20 KJV) For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

B. God has given us the complete protection as we go forward. He does not give us armour for the back. The reason He never expects us to be defeated. Victory is ours. We cannot lose for winning; we cannot go under for going over. Praise the Lord for the Five Callings in our Live.
