Summary: A message of encouragement that God delights in his people, though we are undeserving of His favor.

Ps 149

Praise the LORD.

Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of the saints.

2 Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the people of Zion be glad in their King. 3 Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with tambourine and harp. 4 For the LORD takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with salvation. 5 Let the saints rejoice in this honor and sing for joy on their beds.

Did you know the Lord delights in you? Why do you think he delights in you? When we look in the mirror there is nothing lovely about us. We have done nothing worthy of His delight. We are a vile lot. So when we read something like this in Psalm 149, it causes a guy like me to wonder why.

Lets look at three aspects of God’s delight in His creation.

First:

We are the benefactors of the Lord’s delight and good pleasure. There is no part of His people’s interests that He doesn’t consider. What that means is that there is nothing about your welfare and wellbeing that isn’t important to God.

Ps 121:8

8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

Second:

God does not see us as an immortal being only, but a mortal one as well. He understands our weaknesses and infirmities.

Jesus “took up our infirmities and carried our diseases.” According to Isaiah and Matthew.

When Paul was discussing his thorn in the flesh, He was told:

2 Cor 12:9 - "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."

Third:

There is nothing about you that God doesn’t know about or care about. The very hairs of your head are numbered.

Ps 37:23

23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way.

As we wrap our reading of the Psalms I hope you were blessed and encouraged as you read them. I hope you gained a tremendous amount of wisdom and instruction from them. As we look again to our text for this evening, remember that God delights in His people, and He certainly delights in you through Christ His Son.
