Prayer: God and Gracious Lord, We thank you for giving us the opportunity to worship you today for you alone are worthy to be worshipped and praised. We thank you for also turning us towards lent so that we can begin the journey on roads less often traveled. And we will continue to give you all the glory and praise, in Christ name we pray. Amen.
Sermon: (Outline)
Jesus took with him Peter, John and James to pray on Mount Tabor.
Why did he take only those three? Where the other disciples too busy to go or where they ministering to others?
He took them so that they could witness the events/ and so that they could understand the power of prayer and the other events to take place in Jerusalem where Jesus would suffer and die.
What do we know about Jesus Prayer life?
Did Jesus have a particular time or place in which he decided/wanted/needed to pray?
In the first chapter of Mark it states- Very early in the morning… (Mark 1:35)
Before the Miracle of the five loaves and two fishes he prayed (Mark 6:41)
Luke 5 states Jesus prayed in the wilderness. (Luke 5:16)
Luke 6 states that he prayed all night (Luke 6:12)
Jesus prayed without ceasing every chance that he could.
How and why do we pray?
How is Christ manifested in our prayers?
Do we follow the command of God and Listen to his son when we pray, when the prayers are physically completed?
Do we pray with a two year old concept of “mine” or ‘gimme”?
Do we expect our prayers to be answered, or do we pray just for "show"?
Good thing that Peter, James and John stayed awake and look towards Jesus or they would have missed a great something- Elijah and Moses appearing with Jesus and the voice of God saying, “This is my son, my chosen; listen to him! (Luke 9:35)
