LET’S TALK ABOUT JESUS
ACTS 8:1-8
We are living in a crucial and chaotic day. As we look around us, we see the same violence that characterized Mose’s day. We find the same corruption that was found in the city of Sodom. We behold the same pride that was in the era of Nebuchadnezzar.
We seethe same irreverence that was in the life of Beltshazzar. We find the same disobedience that was in King Saul’s life.
Finally we find the same indifference that was in the life of Jonah.
Sin is grinding and crushing beneath its feet every thing that we hold sacred, while the sons of Jesse tremble in their boots, trying to figure out the size and weight of this Goliath. Indecency is marching half naked around the golden calf and we look in vain for a Moses to call the people to repentance. The church of our day is worldly and divided like the church of Corinth, and there are not any Paul’s to call them to unity.
Divorce has shattered homes and cheated children, and one can scarcely find a John the Baptist to point his finger and say
“it is unlawful for you to have your brother wife”. In America there are over seven million alcoholics and it is hard to find an Isaiah wo will say, “Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning that they may follow strong drink” Isaiah 5:11,14.
We are living in a day of backslidden Christians and it hard to find a tear stained face and broken hearted Jeremiah to call them back to repentance. This is a day of fat long robed preachers sitting at Jezebel’s table, but where is Elijah.
This generation says, “Where is the promise of His coming?” Some one needs to take a trip to the Isle of Patmos and stand with John the beloved and see the New Jerusalem coming down from heaven as a bride adorned for the bridegroom.
This is a day when people are conscious of everything but Christ and the new birth. We are class conscious, we are color conscious, we are power conscious, even God, Church and religion conscious.
Churches are filled with people who know little about salvation and almost nothing about separation. They know nothing about Jesus and His forgiveness, surely we need to talk about Jesus.
It was Jesus who healed the sick-so lets talk to the sick about Jesus and tell them by His stripe we are healed.
It was Jesus who cast the demons from those who were possessed by them-so let us talk to this nervous generation about Jesus.
It was Jesus who stopped dying long enough to save a thief on the cross, so lets tell sinners that His blood can make the vilest sinner clean.
Let us look at something about this Jesus.
I. Who is He?
Many things could be said about Jesus,
It could be said that he is the ancient of days
He is the author of salvation
He is the anchor of hope
He is the beloved son of God
He is the bread of life
He is the balm of Gilead
He is our creator
He is the Captain of our salvation
He is the chief shepherd
He is the day’s man
He is the deliverer
He is the door and the day star
He is the eternal God Immanuel executor of judgment
He is the Lilly of the valley
He is the first and the last Alpha and Omega
He is the white horse pawing in the valley
He is the bright and morning star
He is Daniel’s lock on the lion jaw
He is the three Hebrew boys fan in the fiery furnace
He is the doorway to heaven
He is Lord of Lords and King of Kings
He is the rock of ages (I like this one the song writer said rock of ages cleft for me let me hide my self in thee)
He is the beginning and the ending
He is the one who took the sting out of death and the victory from the grave
He is the one who John said if everything were written about Him no book could hold them
He is the one that love so much he would give his life for his brethren
That not all as I close come with me to a garden where we find him praying so hard that drop of sweat fell as if they were drop of blood…………………………………………………….
