4) Influence you to join with others in praying and fasting for our nation.

Securing Our Nation

Sunday Sermon October 3rd

Intro: The first debate of this election was held and the subject was on National Security and the war on Terror.

These are some of the most unnerving subjects we face today.

- “How do we handle them?”

- “What are our views?”

- And even more importantly, “What shapes our views?”

Hiding in our homes and praying for Jesus to come NOW! Is not a good strategy

Both candidates are claiming they can make the US a safer place.

Where does “Security” come from?

That is the issue! / That is the question that needs asked!

Main Text: Mirrors the prayers of our nation:

Psalm 144:11-15 CEV

Won’t you keep me safe from those lying foreigners who can’t tell the truth?

12 Let’s pray that our young sons will grow like strong plants and that our daughters

will be as lovely as columns in the corner of a palace.

13 May our barns be filled with all kinds of crops.

May our fields be covered with sheep by the thousands, 14 and every cow have calves.

Don’t let our city be captured or any of us be taken away,

and don’t let cries of sorrow be heard in our streets.

15 Our LORD and our God, you give these blessings to all who worship you.

I. God is Our Security

a. God founded our nation

i. Can you think of any other nation, besides Israel, that has been established with more evidence of God’s Hand, miracles and providence? I can’t!

ii. Therefore, we can’t stand by and watch that heritage and our future be wiped away without a voice, without a fight, without prayer and fasting. We can’t allow that to happen.

Luke 12:48 “…For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.”

iii. God has Blessed America NOW America, Bless God!

iv. We can’t expect the heathens to do what only Christians can.

v. We stand for God, His truth, his way and his message!

Pat’s sister-in-law returned from a trip to China. They illegally took Bibles into that country. I have heard many stories of how people have walked right through Chinese security carrying suitcases of Bibles. It is miraculous! God blinded their eyes to the Bibles! That same God that closed the guard’s eyes is the same God that we need to open the eyes of the guards standing our boarders looking for weapons of mass destruction.

President Bush said in the debate,

“We have to be right 100% of the time and the enemy only has to be right once!”

Let’s face it NO human endeavor is right 100% of the time!

We need God’s hand of protection on this nation! Without it we are without hope!

b. We must continue to trust God

i. Don’t place your hope in a man.

ii. Place all your hope in God!

Psalm 33:10-21 CEV

10 The LORD destroys the plans and spoils the schemes of the nations.

11 But what the LORD has planned will stand forever. His thoughts never change.

12 The LORD blesses each nation that worships only him. He blesses his chosen ones.

13 The LORD looks at the world

14 from his throne in heaven, and he watches us all.

15 The LORD gave us each a mind, and nothing we do can be hidden from him.

16 Mighty armies alone cannot win wars for a king; great strength by itself cannot keep a soldier safe.

17 In war the strength of a horse cannot be trusted to take you to safety.

18 But the LORD watches over all who honor him and trust his kindness.

19 He protects them from death and starvation.

20 We depend on you, LORD, to help and protect us.

21 You make our hearts glad because we trust you, the only God.

How do we gain God’s security?

II. Enter and Stay in His Will

Psalm 33:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.

a. Settle the issue of faith

i. Security is a moral issue!

ii. Politics is a moral issue!

iii. Politics, then, is our issue!

b. Walk in a way worthy!

i. Holy living

ii. Purposeful living

1. I told some people the other day, “I have a one track mind in a multitasking world”

2. It all begins to be overwhelming at times when you sit and watch the news or you starting thinking about all that is going on in the world. You are overwhelmed! It is easy to fall into:

a. Anger.

Where all you can do is strike back in rage over the issues of the day.

I will be speaking about some extremely tough issues over the next few weeks.

Issues that easily can drag into a anger mode.

Anger isn’t all bad. It is okay to be awakened by anger but we must not act in anger.

b. Isolation and apathy

Simply step out the arena. This is the last thing that Christians can do. You don’t have to be an expert but the must stay in the game. If we abandon the system we loose the right to speak. God has called us to be Salt and Light to this world.

iii. This requires us to remain in the world. (We are in the world but not of the world)

iv. We must not remain silent. (God forbid that I remain quiet!)

v. Too much other stuff to do / I can’t be bothered with this!

c. Elect leaders worthy of the calling!

Proverbs 29:2 NKJV When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.

i. The only qualified leaders are those who look to God first!

ii. God is the only source of wisdom, direction and safety.

One News show host boasts a “Spin free zone”.

The only true “spin free Zone” is the Word of God

Because the Word of God the Axis of all authority.

God’s word doesn’t change or waiver.

The Standards set by God will always remain a constant in the universe.

iii. Do God and politic mix?

1. They must.

2. The candidates speak about leading with character.

3. You Can Not have good character without God.

iv. The bottom line: “Is there a Moral issue at stake?”

v. Because, if there is a moral issue at stake, it is the irrefutable responsibility of Christians to follow God’s word.

Do we believe the Bible to be true? Is it relevant for all people, in all places and at all times? My unwavering answer is a resounding, “YES” God’s Word is the standard for living and thinking and acting.

Politicians form Policy and Policy forms People.

vi. It’s slow and gradual, yet it is certain.

vii. Who you have calling the shots at the top will eventually lead the people in the same direction.

“Whether partial-birth abortion remains legal will depend on who wins the presidential election — and the power to appoint justices to the Supreme Court.”

“Very likely the president elected in November will have the opportunity to appoint at a least a couple of Supreme Court Justices during the next four-year term."

Douglas Johnson, legislative director for National Right to Life

“Pro-lifers should keep their energies focused on those who are responsible for placing judges on the nation’s courts. A single change at the Supreme Court could shift the balance in favor of life, but that appointment must pass through the Senate.

Jay Sekulow, American Center for Law & Justice

What Can We do?

How do we as Americans and as Christians insure God’s hand of protection and provision remain over our nation and our homes?

III. March Forward in Faith

a. Register to Vote

b. Pray and Fast for our nation and this election

c. Talk to others about the issues!

1 Samuel 12:23 NKJV … far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the right way.

Conclusion:

The last two things that Christians should be worried about are the Economy and National Security. The Christians should be more concerned with what God asks from us so that he can give to us NS and Wealth. Look to him for salvation and walk in his ways!
