Pathway To The Passion
Part 6-Why Did Jesus Have To Die?
In this series we have looked at the reason Jesus had to die from both the Jewish perspective and the Roman perspective. Today we will look at the reason he had to die from Gods perspective.
1-The Problem
Romans 3:23
23 For all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
We have all done things that are wrong. We have all done things that break God’s law.
(Review 10 Commandments W.O.T.M Style)
Because of this we have been separated from God our Creator. Separation from God is death. By ourselves we can do nothing to become united with God.
Man cannot enter heaven by his works
(No amount of prayers, money, or good deeds)
Shedding of blood was required for forgiveness
Hebrews 9:22
22 In fact, we can say that according to the law of Moses, nearly everything was purified by sprinkling with blood. Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins.
2-Why Jesus Could Help
Jesus was not only a man; he was God’s unique son. Because Jesus never disobeyed God and never sinned, only he can bridge that gap between the sinless God and sinful people.
Phillipans 2:7,8
7 He made himself nothing; he took the humble position of a slave and appeared in human form. 8 And in human form he obediently humbled himself even further by dying a criminal’s death on a cross.
1 Thessalonians 5:9,10
9 For God decided to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us. 10 He died for us so that we can live with him forever, whether we are dead or alive at the time of his return.
John 14:6
6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
3-The Solution
Jesus freely offered his life for us, dying on the cross in our place, taking all our wrongdoing upon himself.
Hebrews 10:12
12 But our High Priest offered himself to God as one sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down at the place of highest honor at God’s right hand.
Saving us from the consequences of sin-Gods judgment which is death.
Romans 6:23
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
You may think you are not worthy of this thing God has done for you.
Romans 5:8
8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
Even before you were born, Christ died for you.
He lived a perfect life to set in order to be pleasing to God and set the example for us.
1 Peter 3:18
18 Christ also suffered when he died for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners that he might bring us safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 5:18
18 All this newness of life is from God, who brought us back to himself through what Christ did. And God has given us the task of reconciling people to him. 19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. This is the wonderful message he has given us to tell others.
If someone saved your life by pushing you out of the way of a car or rescued from the flames of a burning house you would be greatfull to them. Jesus has rescued us from the flames. We should shout that news from the mountaintops. A good Christian keeps the faith, but not to themselves
4-The Results
Jesus took our past, present, and future sins upon himself so that we could have new life. Because all our wrongdoing is forgiven, we are reconciled to God.
Furthermore, Jesus’ resurrection from the dead is the proof that his substitutionary sacrifice on the the cross was acceptable to God. His resurrection has become the source of new life for those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God. All who believe in him may have this new life and live it in union with him.
Ephesians 2:8-9
8 God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.
The work has been done.
The price has been paid.
We have been made right with God by his sacrifice.
Hebrews 10:14
14 For by that one offering he perfected forever all those whom he is making holy.
Sanctification is a process. It begins when you begin walking with God
“Being Made Holy” God will work with you and on you, so long as you open your heart and let him.
No matter who you are or what you’ve done, you can be made right with God
Romans 3:22
22 We are made right in God’s sight when we trust in Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, no matter who we are or what we have done.
Right now, right here, today
Will you accept this sacrifice today?

Accept him as your Savior and a new life will begin in you today.
Romans 10:9,10
9 For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.
