Here is a story about a boy…. About 12 or 13 years of age. Born in 640 b.c. – son of a preacher – called by God to be a prophet. Just a kid… just a child…just a boy sent to do a man’s job.
Jerimiah, called out during a nationwide revival. Jerimiah, called under the reing of King Josiah who had all the pagan God’s destroyed. In 627 BC this boy – this teenager – this kid heard the voice of God call him out from the crowd, to do an unusual thing for an extraordinary God. Jerimiah of course responded like not just a teen would, but as most of us would..with an excuse with a line of reasoning…trying to at least sound rational. “Look God, I’m just a kid, and this is a man’s job.” “Who’s gonna listen to what I have to say.” “Who’s going to respond to what I have to say.” “Surely you could find somebody else more suited, more qualified for this job.” “After all, I’m just a boy, you calling to do a man’s job.”
Oft times in life we get it twisted and think God’s design for our lives ought to line up with our thinking, with our skill, with our own goals. We exclaim and explain to God what we could or should do. We even have the audacity to inform Him of what we cannot do…despite the fact we quote Paul frequently and say “I can do all things….”
But God wanted a preacher to stop by and tell somebody, just like He told Jeremiah, I know who you are, and I know what you are, but it is because of who I am that you can do and will do bigger and greater things…!
Because the scripture says that God touched the mouth of Jeremiah and poured the words into Him. God will supply the need for the deed!
When I read the story about Jeremiah, it made me laugh and I politely thanked the Ghost called Holy for dropping Jeremiah into my spirit as soon as Pastor Pierce asked me to preach his appreciation service.
I began to look at his ministry…. A son of a preacher…called to preach as a teenager….. and though he ain’t a kid no more…he pastor’s a congregation that could in most cases be his parents…. And if we were honest we would admit that it is hard to lead those who feel they have earned specific rights simply because they are older. You know how us folk get…. “How can a kid tell me …he or she is just a kid trying to do a grownup’s job.” “They better recognize who they talking to …messing with….dealing with….cuz I am the dimdiggiddy!” I know that it’s hard… many of the members here watched me grow up and to date call me wana wana, or Jr’s daughter or Evelyn’s oldest grandchild and I’m twenty years your senior and still considered a kid, I could only imagine your struggle – but God told me to stop by and tell you and anyone else who is bold enough to believe that God can use who He chooses…. He don’t use what is ordinarily used because the results would not be all that amazing. But when God chooses to use something contrary to belief and normalicy, He is able to receive glory for the outcome cuz everybody’s response will be…”LOOK AT GOD!”
Look at how God uses unusual things…. To change the heart of Jonah --- he used a whale….
To feed a multitude of over 5000 people…he used a tuna casserole…..
To help defeat the city of Jericho…He used a prostitute….To give us salvation, He used an unwed teenage girl…. Surely He can use what some see as a boy trying to do a man’s job! God knew before he formed you the plan he had for your life. He knew that you would deal with some old heads who can’t see pass your youth…but He wants you to just trust Him. He knew that your obstacles would be those you were chosen to lead…but He wants you to just trust Him…. He will place the exact word for the exact moment in your mouth…Preach…He will give you insight on how to rise to the next level….. He will remove every stumbling block tossed in your path….. He will allow the vision in your heart to become a reality…So what if they say you are just a boy trying to do a man’s job…. Trust God – He will move the haters….and besides the word confirms we ought to be as a child in our walk with God anyhow – totally trusting. So what if they think you are just a kid… God let his mighty works show thru three teenagers…Shad..Mesh… and Abednigo… when they went into a furnace praising God and came out praising God and changed the hardened heart of King Nebachanezer .. He will allow your faithfulness change the Nebachanezer’s of your life. So what if they think you are a boy…. Jesus is the seed of a boy who was anointed when no one else thought (even his daddy) he should have been.
God uses the worlds rejects to show up and show out. God has placed a bombshell message on your lips that you have been leary to share because after all they say your are just a boy trying to do a man’s job….But God told me to tell you to grab hold because you are about to take off…. And if you thought there were some rumors and rumors of rumors before…. You ain’t seen nothing yet. Paint the vision clear what God has told you will come to path… tell em what God has said in your ear in the wee hours of the morning and watch God work. He had to use you… God uses what will bring Him glory – not that will glorify our egos. So that someone will say…. Wow that boy did that thing… LOOK AT GOD! They may grumble about the mentioning of adding a ministry to the church, or mumble about the request of a new church van, or whine about the need for a pay increase, so you may struggle sharing the big vision God said share because somebody called you boy. But boy….tell them … tell them about the edifice a good God has shown you….Boy….tell them about the massive choir God has revealed in your sleep. Boy tell them about the fleet of vans, cars, and buses Unity will have…. Boy tell them how the ministries that minister to the need of the people will cause a great influx of membership. Boy tell them How Unity will be the Salvation Center in the Metro area as the Holy Spirit fills row, after row, after row. Tell em how God is fitna work a work through a Boy sent to do a man’s job. Tell them Eyes haven’t seen……..whats bout to break off…. Ears haven’t heard…what’s bout to take off… nor has it entered into the hearts of man…what God is about to do up in here under the “boy”. He sent a boy over 2000 years ago to save a world…because He is God. He sent a boy to talk to the preachers and teach them something in the church house…because He is God…. And as he carried the cross up Calvary’s hill, he was still considered a boy – back in the day folk lived for a minute or two…..God let this young man take on the sins of the world to the grave to bury our stuff. So we know God can use a boy … a girl…. A man … or a woman to do any job others think ain’t doable!
