I’LL NOT TURN MY BACK ON HIM NOW
Job 2:1-13
Intro: We find in this book a man named Job. A man that was perfect and upright and that feared God and eschewed evil. But let me remind you that Job was still just a man. He was still flesh and bone just like you and I. In the reading of the first chapter we see how that Satan was allowed by God to take all that Job had. But even after that Job refused to blame God for his trouble. Job still praised the Lord . Job just couldn’t turn his back on the Lord. I want to title my message this evening after a song I hear just recently. I want to preach on the subject “I’LL NOT TURN MY BACK ON HIM NOW.”
I. THOUGH I MAY LOSE ALL MY POSSESSION, I’LL NOT TURN MY BACK ON HIM NOW
A. (Job 1:15) Job lost his servants and his oxen
B. (Job 1:16) Job lost his servants and his sheep
C. (Job 1:17) Job lost his servants and his camels
D. (Job 1:19) Job lost his children
E. Even through all of this Job did not turn his back on the Lord.
F. (Job 1:20-22) Then Job arose and rent his mantle and shaved his head and fell upon the ground and worshipped
G. (v 21) And said Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shal I return thither, the Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord
H. (v 22) In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly
II. THOUGH MY FAMILY MAY FORSAKE ME, I’LL NOT TURN MY BACK ON HIM NOW
A. (Job 2:6) Satan seeing Job wouldn’t turn on God he asked for permission to strike Job with affliction and God allowed him to do everything but take his life
B. (Job 2:9) Job being stricken with boils from his head to the soles of his feet was approached by his wife “The said his wife to him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? Curse God and die
C. (Job 2:10) But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin, with his lips
III. THOUGH FRIENDS MAY NOT UNDERSTAND, I’LL NOT TURN MY BACK ON HIM NOW
A. (Job 2:11-13) When Jobs friends heard of what happened they came to comfort him. When they say the condition of Job they wept and mourned. And they sat with him seven days and never spoke a word.
B. Eliphaz(REFINER) - (the most sympathetic) tells Job that God only chastises the wicked and not the righteous and tells Job to just submit to the chastisement of God. He is insinuating that Job had to have sinned
C. Bildad(SON OF CONTENTION) – basically had the same argument that Elipahz did saying the if Job was really upright God would vindicate him. Bildad based his argument on his belief that because God was just. He would not bring justice upon a righteous individual.
D. Zophar (CHIRPER) – accused Job of self-righteousness and stubbornness telling him that he deserved to suffer even more. He maintained that if Job would turn from his sin the suffering would cease immediately
IV. THOUGH PREACHERS REFUSE TO PREACH THE TRUTH’, I’LL NOT TURN MY BACK ON HIM NOW
A. It’s all about the $$$$
B. (2 Timothy 4:3) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
V. THOUGH THE WORLD REJECTS THE LORD, I’LL NOT TURN MY BACK ON HIM NOW
A. The disciples turned on him in the garden
B. Peter turned on him at the crucifixion
C. The Jews have rejected him
