SOME THINGS THE PRODIGAL NEVER COUNTED ON
Luke 15:11-24
Intro: In this text we find a young man who has left the safety of home and wandered into the unknown. A place that is unforgiving and relentless on its victims. He has fled from his father’s rule to be his own person. He has become a prodigal son. But there were a few things this young man was not counting on once he got out on his own. There are some folks today that have gotten away from the safety of the Lord but they never counted the cost of leaving. They feel as though they are their own person and no one not even the Lord can have any rule over them. However, when their life begins to crumble and they realize they have made an awful mistake then they fell the pain of their leaving father’s house. I want to preach on the subject of “SOME THINGS THE PRODIGAL NEVER COUNTED ON”
I. He never counted on it being so EXPENSIVE (v 13)
A. (Luke 15:13) And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
B. He never counted on it being so expensive
C. Being prodigal may very well cost you everything you have got
D. Financial trouble brings a lot of pain
II. He never counted on being ESTRANGED (v 14)
A. (Luke 15:14) And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
B. After he has spent his all on his “FRIENDS” there was no one to help him during his want. He had been alienated
C. The devil will use you all he can and then leave your for dead
III. He never counted on being so EMPTY (v 15-16)
A. He had to join himself a citizen of that country just to be able to work
B. Then he got a job slopping hogs
C. Desired to be back home
IV. He never counted on it being some EMOTIONAL (v 17-18)
A. The Bible says …And when he had came to himself
B. He went looking for forgiveness
C. On the way home he passed by the bars, by the women whose heart he had broken, by the back alley’s where he had laid drunk he was determined to get home
V. He never counted on EQUALITY (v 21-24)
A. In verse 21 he says…he is no more worthy to be called his son
B. He just wanted to be a servant
C. In verse 24 his father calls him son
Close: Are you out of fellowship with the Lord? Does that pain bother you most day and night? You may be okay when all of your friends are around but when you get off alone do you think about that relationship you use to have with the Father? How many times have your cried yourself to sleep from the pain of being prodigal? Would you just come home today.
