Summary: We agree with MasterCard: yes, there are some things money can’t buy! Let’s look at four of the “priceless” things that fall in that category.

PRICELESS

“…knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” 1 Peter 1:18-19 (NKJV)

We have all seen MasterCard’s commercial “There are some things money can’t buy and for everything else, there’s MasterCard.” This has become perhaps the most copied commercial in our day. Some of these commercials are quite thought-worthy while others are somewhat “flaky”. Many people are coming up with their own personal variations. Now that its election time, the number is definitely proliferating. Our church even got on the “copy bandwagon” placing on our church sign the following message:

One Happy Meal $2.50 One 2004 Mercedes Benz…..$55,000. The love of God…..PRICELESS!

We agree with MasterCard: yes, there are some things money can’t buy! Let’s look at four of the “priceless” things that fall in that category.

LIFE ITSELF

From conception to death, life is a priceless gift from God. When God summons the spirit from the body, all the money in the world will not buy anyone a single additional day of earthly existence.

James calls our attention to the fact that not only is life priceless, it is also brief. Hence, the “little time” that we are allotted must be put to maximum utilization in the service of our Lord.

“Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit"; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” James 4:13-14 (NKJV)

Job also reminds us how precious and priceless is life: “My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle.” Job 7:7.

SALVATION

No one can buy, bargain or trade to obtain salvation. It is a priceless gift.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV)

THE HOLY SPIRIT

This priceless Gift provides guidance, comfort, strength, power and eternal security for every born-again believer.

“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.” John 16:13-14 (NKJV)

"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you.” Acts 1:8 (NKJV)

“…having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.” Ephesians 1:13-14 NKJV

AN EVERLASTING COMPANIONSHIP WITH CHRIST JESUS

His continuing presence is priceless! A gift that money cannot buy. Both the Old and the New Testaments bare witness of this wonderful truth.

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9 (NKJV)

“…and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:20 (NKJV)

“For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’." Hebrews 13:5 (NKJV)
