INTRODUCTION:
The presence of God is the most vital need of every believer. It is in His presence that we find direction, strength, peace, joy, and fulfilment. Pressing into His presence is not a one-time event but a continuous pursuit that requires hunger, discipline, and commitment. God invites us not just to visit, but to dwell in His presence.
In Scripture, we see that those who pressed into God's presence experienced divine encounters that shaped their lives and destinies. Moses refused to proceed without God’s presence. David longed for it like a deer pants for water. The early apostles tarried in prayer until they were endued with power from on high. The presence of God is our place of power.
Pressing into God’s presence means we are willing to go beyond routines, beyond religion, and into deep relationship. It is in this place of closeness that the ordinary is transformed into the extraordinary. There is no true power, no lasting change, and no meaningful ministry outside of His presence.
1. THE PRESENCE OF GOD IS OUR HIGHEST PURSUIT
a) God desires fellowship with us (Revelation 3:20)
God is not distant; He desires to commune with His children.
b) We were created for His presence (Genesis 3:8)
In Eden, man’s original design included daily fellowship with God.
c) There is fullness of joy in His presence (Psalm 16:11)
Nothing compares with the satisfaction of dwelling with God.
d) Those who seek Him will find Him (Jeremiah 29:13)
Persistent pursuit leads to divine encounter.
Biblical Example: David, despite being a king, desired one thing above all—to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of his life (Psalm 27:4).
2. PRESSING INTO GOD'S PRESENCE REQUIRES HUNGER
a) Spiritual hunger is the fuel for deeper encounters (Matthew 5:6)
Only the hungry will be filled with more of God.
b) We must thirst after God (Psalm 42:1–2)
Deep calls unto deep when the soul longs for God.
c) Lukewarmness hinders divine intimacy (Revelation 3:15–16)
God does not reveal Himself to the complacent.
d) Spiritual hunger must be maintained daily (Luke 9:23)
Pursuing God is not seasonal but daily.
Biblical Example: Paul, even after years in ministry, still cried out to know Christ more deeply (Philippians 3:10).
3. THE PRESENCE OF GOD TRANSFORMS OUR LIVES
a) We are changed in His presence (2 Corinthians 3:18)
God’s presence brings lasting transformation.
b) His presence brings clarity and direction (Psalm 73:17)
God makes His ways known when we draw near.
c) Chains are broken in God’s presence (Acts 16:25–26)
Bondages cannot survive where God dwells.
d) Our strength is renewed in His presence (Isaiah 40:31)
Weariness is replaced with supernatural energy.
Biblical Example: Isaiah encountered God in the temple and his life and calling were radically transformed (Isaiah 6:1–8).
4. PRESSING INTO GOD'S PRESENCE REQUIRES CONSECRATION
a) God’s presence demands holiness (Hebrews 12:14)
We must live clean to dwell close.
b) We must cleanse our hearts continually (James 4:8)
Intimacy with God begins with inward purity.
c) The veil has been torn, but reverence is still required (Hebrews 10:19–22)
We approach with boldness, yet with awe.
d) Sin hinders access to His presence (Isaiah 59:1–2)
Repentance restores broken fellowship.
Biblical Example: The High Priest had to purify himself before entering the Most Holy Place. Jesus now calls us to that same purity (Leviticus 16:3–4, Hebrews 10:22).
5. THE PRESENCE OF GOD EMPOWERS FOR SERVICE
a) God’s presence is the source of true power (Acts 1:8)
We cannot serve effectively without Him.
b) Ministry without presence is empty (Exodus 33:15)
Moses refused to move without God going with him.
c) Miracles flow from God’s presence (Luke 5:17)
When the Lord is present, His power is also present.
d) His presence gives us boldness (Acts 4:13)
Time with Jesus turns ordinary men into bold witnesses.
Biblical Example: The apostles in the upper room waited for the Holy Spirit and emerged with fire, authority, and results (Acts 2:1–4).
CONCLUSION:
God is inviting you into His presence—not for a moment but for a lifetime. There are realms of God yet unexplored. The more you press in, the more you discover. He is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. The presence of God is not for a select few—it is your inheritance in Christ.
If you want to walk in power, purpose, and purity, you must press into the presence of God. It is the wellspring of life, the fountain of revival, and the secret of the saints. Begin today. Build an altar. Create space. Press in—and you will find Him waiting for you.
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, create in me a deeper hunger for Your presence.
