Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
This sermon encourages believers to let go of the past, persevere in faith, and passionately pursue God's purpose, looking forward to His promises.
Welcome, beloved, to our time of worship and fellowship in the Lord's presence. I trust that His grace has been sufficient for you through the week and that you are eager to hear from Him today. We gather here, not by coincidence, but by divine appointment. We are here because we are drawn by the love of God and the fellowship of the saints. We are here to encourage one another, to uplift each other, and to grow together in faith and love.
Today, we are going to look at a Scripture passage that speaks to the heart of every believer, a passage that calls us to a higher purpose, a deeper commitment, and a greater reward. The apostle Paul, in his letter to the Philippians, gives us a glimpse into the heart of a man passionately pursuing God's purpose, persevering in faith, and looking forward to the promises of God.
Here is what Paul says in Philippians 3:13-14, "Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
This passage is a clarion call to every believer, a call to let go of the past, to strain toward the future, and to press on toward the goal. It is a call to live with passion, to persevere in faith, and to look forward to the promises of God.
The great preacher Charles Spurgeon once said, "By perseverance, the snail reached the ark." This quote is a powerful reminder that it is not the swiftness of our pace, but the direction of our steps and the persistence of our strides that matter in the race of faith.
Let us pray. Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for this precious moment. We thank You for Your Word that is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. As we reflect on Your Word today, open our hearts and minds to receive from You. May Your Holy Spirit illuminate our understanding and strengthen our resolve to live according to Your purpose. Guide us, Lord, as we forget what is behind, strain toward what is ahead, and press on toward the goal. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
The words of Paul in the Scripture passage we are studying today are a powerful reminder of the need to live our lives with a sense of purpose and passion. Paul was a man who knew his purpose. He was called by God to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles. This was not just a job for Paul; it was his life's mission. He was passionate about it. He was willing to endure hardships, face persecution, and even risk his life for the sake of his calling.
Just like Paul, each one of us has been called by God for a specific purpose. This purpose is not just something we do; it is who we are. It defines us. It gives meaning to our lives. It is what we are passionate about. And just like Paul, we are called to pursue this purpose with passion.
Now, what does it mean to pursue our purpose with passion? It means to live our lives with enthusiasm, with zeal, with a burning desire to fulfill our calling. It means to give our all, to put our heart and soul into what we do.
But pursuing our purpose with passion comes with challenges to overcome, obstacles to surmount, and difficulties to face. There are times when we may feel discouraged, disheartened, and even defeated. But in such times, we need to remember the words of Paul, "I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
Our purpose is not just about the here and now; it is about the eternal. It ought to be about God's kingdom and glory. It is not just about our success and satisfaction; it is about the salvation of souls and the spread of the gospel.
Transition. So, let us take to heart the words of Paul. Let us live our lives with purpose and passion. Let us press on toward the goal. Let us run the race with perseverance. Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. And let us look forward to the day when we will receive the prize for which God has called us heavenward in Christ Jesus.
In the grand tapestry of life, the threads of purpose and passion are intricately woven together ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
