Contributed by William Akehurst on Jun 28, 2007 (message contributor)
Summary: A short devotional and prayer for a Home Dedication and Presentation Ceremony for Habitat for Humanity.
PRESENTATION OF HOMES
Today, we are gathered to celebrate the hard work and gifts of love and sacrifice for the construction and placement of these homes. The very land that we stand upon has been ordained by God for the purpose which we are here to celebrate today. The hands, sweat and financial funding of many gathered here have been used to bless each one of us. We are truly standing on Holy Ground.
That in mind, I must present you with this word from the Holy Bible. God’s Word to us.
SCRIPTURE READING
The Word of God tells us in Psalms 127 that
Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain
Therefore it is my duty to inform you what the word of God speaks in
Deuteronomy 6:1-9 as
The Greatest Commandment
"Now this is the commandment, the statutes and the rules that the LORD your God commanded me to teach you, that you may do them in the land to which you are going over, to possess it,
that you may fear the LORD your God, you and your son and your son’s son, by keeping all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be long.
Hear therefore, O Israel, and be careful to do them, that it may go well with you,
and that you may multiply greatly, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.
“Hear, O Israel:
The LORD our God, the LORD is one.
You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Psalms 127:1 Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.
Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever."
Let us Pray
PRAYER:
Oh God, Our Eternal Heavenly Father, In the Name of Jesus we come before you with Praise and Honor to your most Holy and Precious Name.
We thank you that this day we have breath to praise your Holy Name.
This morning you bless each of us with gifts of love and of life, of laughter and of music, of wisdom and of inspiration.
Together this day, we celebrate all your many blessings.
These blessings of community, family and friends.
We thank you for your grace this day, and for the labor of those who have made this morning possible.
We ask that you would now pour out your grace upon us.
That your perfect peace might reign in every heart and every home represented here.
Lord,
Where we are ignorant, enlighten us.
Where we are prideful, humble us.
Where we are weak and weary, strengthen us.
Where we are wounded or broken, heal us.
Lord we pray your blessing upon all those who labored to make this day possible. Bless the givers of the gifts received for this purpose, the suppliers of the materials, the hands that labored to build, the officials that made the paths possible, bless the families of each and every one who partook in this endeavour. And above all, bless these homes in the name of the Lord, and the families that dwell therein. In the most precious name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
