HINDRANCE to the Harvest

“Greet”—?????????—To draw to one’s self; Welcome; a salutation was made not merely by a slight gesture & a few words, but generally by embracing & kissing, A journey was retarded frequently by greeting/saluting.

The 70 were not to greet anyone as they traveled to their intended destinations. Their mission was a determined one with a fixed purpose which would be hindered by ‘small talk’ & friendly discussion.

Argumentation:

Heb. 12:1-2—“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance, & the sin which so easily entangles us, & let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author & perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, & has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

1Pet. 1:13-14—“Therefore, gird your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance,”
