Summary: PRAYER, THE PROOF OF GODLINESS.
PRAYER, THE PROOF OF GODLINESS. Ps. 32
“For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time
when thou mayest be found.”-Psalm 32:6.
I. THE MARK OF GODLINESS: “ pray unto thee.”
Saul Acts 9 v 11 "And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth," Sign Of Life
(a) In It's Infancy
(b) It's Intensity (Growth) James 5 v 17 "Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit."
(c) It's Authority (Influence) Over Men, Missions, & Nations
(d) It's Familiarity (Natural as Breathing)
Prayer should be the natural outflow of the soul; you should pray because you must pray, not because the set time for praying has arrived, but because your heart must cry unto your Lord.
II. THE MOTIVATION OF GODLINESS: “For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found.”
(a) God has heard the prayer of a great sinner. eg. David's Sin
(b) God has forgiven the past of a great sinner
(c) God has given provision for great sinners v.6 For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him. 7 ¶ Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah."
(d) God has promised to hear the prayer of great sinners "For this"
God does hear prayer, and because he hears it we will call upon him
as long as we live.
III. THE MOTION OF GODLINESS: "in a time when thou mayest be found,”
or, “in a time of finding,” as the margin
Is there any set time when God is to be found?
(a) While there is Life “He that seeketh findeth.”
(b) While there is Liberty Matt 27 v 51 "And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;" ie. in Gospel Dispensation
(c) While there is Light ie. in Revival
(d) While there is Lordship
