Prayer of Blessing Upon Your Child

Based on Ephesians 6:10-20

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

Father, I pray for my child, ______________, using Your Word as a template1:

+ I pray for them to be covered with a Helmet of Salvation:

For their mind to be renewed by Your Holy Spirit and to be centered on righteousness. For their mind not to be conformed to the evils of this world, but to be renewed by the Holy Spirit. Grant them a mind that is able to discern what is God's will, what is good, acceptable, and perfect.

Enable them to live out Philippians 4:8-9 -- To have a mind that dwells on things of truth, honor, justice, purity, love, excellence, praise, and peace. To have a mind that is under the leadership and control of the Holy Spirit.

+ I pray for them to have the Sword of the LORD:

For them to be people of Your Holy Word. Allow Your Word to be a lamp to their feet and a light for their paths (Psalms 119:105). Let them be able to see clearly how to walk in Your Holy Spirit. Let You Word lead them daily and show them their path in this life here on earth.

Draw them to You Word for teaching, for instruction and for reproof. Allow You Word to correct them and lead them as they walk in Your righteousness. 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

+ I pray for them to have the Shield of Faith:

I pray that they have faith in You and walk by faith (Galatians 2:15-21 and Hebrews 11). I ask You, Lord, to help them to always put their faith in You and not in materialism, hedonism, or any other false god of this world. I pray that they be like Abraham and display a faith and the courage to stand up against all evil and its attacks. Create within them a spirit like that of the patriarch Noah, that was true to Your will in the midst of a evil and perverse world. Please lead them to be men and women of true faith.

+I pray for them to have Feet fitted with Readiness:

I pray that you will fit them with spiritual shoes that will help them stand firmly when all others are falling. Shoes filled with Your peace and shoes that will help them in their walk with You, O Lord (Psalms 18:33). Fit them with shoes that will help them walk in Your love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, goodness, and self-control.

+I pray for them to have the Breastplate of Righteousness:

I pray that my child shall fulfill Your Word in Deut. 6:5 and that they love You, Lord, with all their heart, soul and might. That they grow up and have the same spirit as Barnabas who is described in Acts 11:24 to be a person who is good, full of Your Holy Spirit and full of faith. Enable them to learn what it means to be a person of salt and light. Protect their hearts from evil and deliver them from all temptations. Create within them a heart like David's - a heart after You.

+I pray for them to have the Belt of Truth:

I pray that my child shall know Jesus, that You are the Truth, the Way and the Life (John 14:6). Only, You Lord, can reveal to them and help them understand the truth of life (Psalms 25:5). Only You, Jesus, can show them the way. Only You, Holy Spirit, can sanctify them in Your Truth ( John 17:17). Place around them Your Power and Presence so that they can withstand the deception of the Devil and always follow the path of Truth.
