Power In Weakness Lesson 5 Series
Contributed by Elmer Towns on Aug 15, 2025 (message contributor)
Summary: Six decisions to change everything.
“Jesus fasted … for forty days and forty night, fasted … became very hungry … the devil … if you are the Son of God … stones become bread … Jesus told him … “No … people do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:1-11, NLT).
A. HUNGER IN THE CLASSROOM
1. The devil invited Jesus to deny His incarnation, i.e., to feed His physical needs the wrong way.
a. Not wrong to fast.
b. Not wrong to eat.
c. Wrong to give into temptation. “Cheat His way to satisfy hunger.”
2. Learn the meaning of hunger beneath hunger.
a. Physical hunger is your body’s natural alarm clock.
b. Spiritual hunger is our soul’s godly alarm clock.
c. When we fast, it is to know God and learn from Him.
3. You can be loved and hungry at the same time.
a. You feed your soul on Jesus. “I am the bread of life, he who comes to Me will never hunger” (John 6:35).
b. Jesus loves you and will never abandoned you when you are hungry. But must be hungry in the right way, right motives.
4. Truth of Christian power – resides in weakness.
a. Yield. “Since we died with Christ – “give yourselves completely to God” (Romans 6:8, 12, NLT).
b. Recognize death. “My old self has been crucified with Christ” (Galatians 2:20, NLT).
c. New life-power. “Christ lives in you” (Colossians 1:27, NLT).
5. Your new power is in Christ. “When I am lifted up, I will draw all men unto Me” (John 12:32).
a. His drawing power.
b. His indwelling power (John 14:20).
c. Prayer power. “If you remain in Me … My words in you … as … it will be granted” (John 15:1, NLT).
6. See the problems and potential Jesus faced (Matthew 4:1-11).
a. Wilderness, your place.
b. 40 day fast, your emptiness.
c. Devil tempted, you too.
d. Quoted the Bible, your strength.
e. Devil left Jesus (v. 11), your victory.
7. Six decisions to change everything:
a. Time to get alone to find God’s presence.
b. Time to follow Jesus into desert (empty place) to pray and prepare.
c. Time to understand the devil will tempt at your weakest (hunger).
d. Time to face evil/temptation and quote Scriptures.
e. Time to embrace your calling to fallow Christ.
f. Time to embrace Christ’s presence and power.
If you have never really accepted Jesus as your personal Savior, would you do it right now? Do not delay or put it off. If you would like to receive Christ by faith, pray this simple prayer in your heart:
Dear Lord, I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died for my sins on the cross, and rose again the third day. I repent of my sins. By faith I receive the Lord Jesus as my Savior. You promised to save me, and I believe You, because You are God and cannot lie. I believe right now that the Lord Jesus is my personal Savior, and that all my sins are forgiven through His precious blood. I thank You, dear Lord, for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
If you prayed that prayer, God heard you and saved you. I personally want to welcome you to the family of God and rejoice with you.
