Positioned for Overflowing Blessings
Study Text: Deuteronomy 28:1–2
Introduction:
- Deuteronomy 28 is a covenant chapter. It reveals that blessings are not accidental; they are conditional and intentional.
- God does not merely give blessings—He positions His people so that blessings pursue and overtake them.
- This sermon reveals how believers can move from struggling for blessings to being surrounded by them.
- We shall be discussing the topic under three subheadings:
1. The Prerequisite for Divine Blessings
2. The Promise of Divine Blessings
3. The Pattern of Divine Blessings
1. The Prerequisite for Divine Blessings
“…If thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God…”
1. Obedience is the gateway to elevation.
- God’s blessings respond to attentive obedience, not casual listening.
- Hearing God’s voice requires:
1. A teachable heart
2. Reverence for God’s Word
3. Prompt obedience
John 10:27 – “My sheep hear my voice…”
2. Partial obedience produces partial results.
- God demands diligent obedience and not distracted obedience.
James 1:22 – “Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only…”
- Until obedience becomes deliberate, distinction remains distant.
2. The Promise of Divine Blessings
“…the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth.”
1. God is the One who lifts.
- This is not self-promotion, connection, or manipulation.
Psalm 75:6–7 – “Promotion cometh neither from the east… but God is the judge.”
2. Divine lifting brings global relevance.
- God does not elevate for pride but for purpose, impact, and testimony.
Genesis 12:2 – “I will bless thee… and thou shalt be a blessing.”
- When God lifts you, no man can bring you down.
3. The Pattern of Divine Blessings
“And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee…”
1. Covenant blessings pursue the obedient.
- You don’t chase blessings—they chase you.
Psalm 23:6 – “Goodness and mercy shall follow me…”
2. These blessings are comprehensive.
- Spiritual blessings
- Financial blessings
- Familial blessings
- Occupational blessings
Ephesians 1:3
3. Overtaking blessings silence struggle.
- They arrive suddenly, unexpectedly, and abundantly.
Isaiah 60:22 – “A little one shall become a thousand…”
Conclusion:
- God’s desire is not that His people beg for survival but that they walk in covenant advantage.
- Obedience positions you where blessings recognize you by name.
- When you align with God’s voice, you attract God’s overflow.
