People Ask For Many Things But One Thing Is Meaningful

Summary: People desire many things but few things are benefiting to the person.
This world comes with a lot of desires and many things one can ask for, thinking that they will satisfy their deepest desires. People desires big lands, big houses, expensive clothing, beautiful cars, big titles and many other things. In fact, if you want to know what people wants in life, ask them to ask anything and you will grant them. But all these can never satisfy us man’s deepest want of life. Two examples of people who asked for something.
1. Solomon's Choice
I remember Solomon was asked by God in 1 King 3:5, At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” NIV
If it was you who was asked by the president of the country to ask for whatever thing you wanted, what do you think you could have asked for? Solomon asked for wisdom.
2. Herod’s Daughter Choice
I also remember Herod’s daughter who danced very well before Herod her father and pleasing the father, the dad asked her to ask for anything she wanted her father to give. Unfortunately, the daughter asks for John the Baptist’s head.
Mark 6:22 says, “When the daughter of Herodias came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests. The king said to the girl, “Ask me for anything you want, and I’ll give it to you.”24 She went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask for?” “The head of John the Baptist,” she answered”.
People can make weird decisions and ask for things that can’t help them in any way. We might love to this little girl with her request, but that is what many of us are asking for.
Mat 16:26 Jesus asks this one important question that interwoven with one may thing that all of us she should be asking for, “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?” Desire and ask for that one thing that can grant you eternal life.
I am so much encouraged by David’s words in Psalm 27:4 in which he declares that one thing he has desired and even seeks from the Lord, “that to dwell in His house forever”. Not only to dwell in the house of the Lord but he adds two more things; namely, first that as he dwells in the Lords, “he will behold the beauty of the LORD” and second, “to inquire in His temple”.
Three things are very important in man’s life, one to dwell in the house of the Lord, two let’s behold the beauty of the and LORD and finally let’s inquire in His temple of what He wants you and me do with the free life He has given us.
Prayer
Our Father in Heaven, we thank for the free gift of choosing, thank for the freedom to ask for anything from you LORD. We thank you Lord because you have also granted us with multiple choices from your word of good things to chose in life. David chose to dwell in your house, by beholding your beauty and inquiring of what you want out of the free life you have freely granted him. That is my prayer too Lord. let me dwell in your house always. Amen
