Explores the enduring, divine peace promised by Jesus, emphasizing God's desire for our peace, living in divine rest, and casting our cares upon Him.

Introduction

Hey folks, we're here today, gathered in the warmth of our fellowship, ready to dig into some good, nourishing spiritual food. We're going to talk about something that we all need, something we all crave, and that's peace. Not the kind of peace you get from a quiet house or a good night's sleep, although those are great too, but the kind of peace that comes from knowing God is in control and He's got your back.

In the words of the great Christian author, A.W. Tozer, "The man who comes to a right belief about God is relieved of ten thousand temporal problems." That's the kind of peace we're talking about here, folks. The peace that comes from a right belief about God, a peace that relieves us of our earthly worries and fears.

So, let's look at what the Bible has to say about this peace. In John 14:27, Jesus tells us,

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

Wow, what a promise that is! Jesus is telling us that He's giving us His peace. Not the kind of peace the world gives, which can be fleeting and fickle, but a peace that is steadfast and enduring, a peace that can calm our troubled hearts and banish our fears.

So, we're going to look at this promise of peace in three ways today. First, we'll look at understanding God's desire for our peace. Then, we'll move on to living in a state of divine rest. And finally, we'll talk about casting our cares upon Him.

But before we get started, let's bow our heads in prayer.

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your promise of peace. We thank You that You are not a God of confusion or chaos, but a God of order and peace. As we study Your word today, we ask that You would open our hearts and minds to Your truth. Help us to understand Your desire for our peace, to live in a state of divine rest, and to cast our cares upon You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Understanding God's Desire for Our Peace

The peace that Jesus promises us is a peace that surpasses all understanding. It's a peace that the world cannot give. It's a peace that comes from knowing God and understanding His love for us. God's desire for our peace is evident throughout the Bible. In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word for peace is "shalom," which means completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety, soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony. This is the kind of peace that God wants for us.

God doesn't want us to live in fear or anxiety. He doesn't want us to be troubled by the worries of this world. He wants us to live in peace, to experience the fullness and completeness of His shalom. This peace isn't just a feeling or a state of mind. It's a way of life. It's living in harmony with God, with others, and with ourselves. It's experiencing the fullness of God's love and grace in every area of our lives.

Knowing God and understanding His love for us comes from trusting in His promises and believing in His goodness. It comes from surrendering our fears and anxieties to Him and allowing Him to fill us with His peace. It’s not dependent on our circumstances. It's not something that comes and goes with the ups and downs of life. It's a constant, unchanging peace that comes from knowing God and trusting in His promises.

God's peace is a gift. It's something that He gives to us freely, without any conditions or strings attached. All we have to do is accept it. All we have to do is open our hearts and let His peace fill us.

God's peace is a promise. It's something that He has promised to give to us, no matter what we're going through. No matter how hard life gets, no matter how much we're hurting, God's peace is always there for us. It’s a refuge. It's a place of safety and security in the midst of the storms of life. When everything around us is falling apart, when we're feeling overwhelmed and afraid, we can find peace in God.

God's peace is a source of strength. It's something that gives us the courage to face our fears and the strength to overcome our challenges. It's something that helps us to keep going, even when we feel like giving up. It's something that brings joy and happiness into our lives. It's something that fills us with hope and gives us a reason to smile, even in the midst of our struggles.

God's peace is a sign of His love. It's a reminder that He cares for us, that He's with us, and that He's working all things together for our good. It's a reminder that we are loved, valued, and cherished by God. It's a witness to the world of God's goodness and faithfulness. It's a testament to the power of God's love and the depth of His mercy. It's something that we should cherish and protect. It's something that we should seek after with all our hearts. It's something that we should strive to live in every day of our lives.

God's peace is a challenge. It's a call to trust in God, to surrender our fears and anxieties to Him, and to live in the fullness of His peace. It's a call to live in harmony with God, with others, and with ourselves. It's a call to live a life of peace, filled with the love and grace of God. It's a process of growing and maturing in our faith. It's a journey of learning to trust in God, to surrender our fears and anxieties to Him, and to live in the fullness of His peace.
