Paul's Prayer Request

BRETHREN, PRAY FOR US

“Brethren, pray for us.” 1Th 5:25

“Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:” Col. 4:3

“Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.” II Th 3:1,2

I. THE REQUEST THAT HE MAKES.

“Brethren, pray for us.”

A. PAUL SENSED HIS LIMITS.

1. He had a burning desire to preach.

“Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto

us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ.”

2. He was now bond in prison.

a. Separated from his family and friends.

b. Stripped of his freedom.

B. PAUL WANTED THEM TO SHARE THE LOAD.

1. The people to whom he was able to turn

“Brethren”

2. The power he was able to trust.

“God will open the door.”

II. THE REASONS THAT HE GIVES.

A. HE EXPECTED TO FIND MANY OPPORTUNITIES.

B. HE EXPECTED TO FACE MUCH OPPOSITION.

1. Pray for the success of the Gospel.

2. Pray for the safety of the gospel minister.

III. THE REGRET THAT HE EXPRESSES.

“For all men have not the faith.”

A. SOME MEN WILL NOT RECEIVE THE GOSPEL.

1. They act against all laws of reason.

2. They act against all laws of religion.

B. NO MERCY FOR THOSE WHO REJECT THE GOSPEL.
