PAUL’S PERSONAL COMMISSION AND VISION FOR
WORLD EVANGELISM!
In this sermon outline we compare the personal commission of Paul to the commission to the Church from the Lord Jesus in Mark 16:15-20 and Matt 28:19-20.
Acts 26:12-19 (KJV) 12 Whereupon as I went to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests, 13 At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me. 14 And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 15 And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest. 16 But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee; 17 Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, 18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. 19 Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:
I. Paul’s ministry began with his conversion to Christ.
A. Ministers must be first saved if they are called to the ministry.
1. Like all Paul was a sinner.
a. A great sinner. Persecuting the Church. 1 Timothy 1:15 (KJV) This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
b. When the Church is persecuted then the Lord is persecuted. Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
II. Paul was saved and called to be a witness and minister to the World.
A. This is what Jesus told the church. Mark 16:15 (KJV) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
III. Paul was to deliver from the power of Satan. 18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God,
A. This is what He told the Church. Mark 16:17 (KJV) And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
IV. Paul was faithful to his calling. 19 Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision
A. He was faithful to the end. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 (KJV) 7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
1. Paul said the crown is for all who love His return.
2. I want to wear that crown one day and you and I can if we are obedient to His calling.
3. Keeping the faith is keeping His Word. Understanding is the reward of faith. Therefore seek not to understand that thou mayest believe, but believe that thou mayest understand. Augustine.
