Patience

November 12, 2008 Wednesday Service

Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK

Rick Boyne

Message Point: Patience is not natural; it must be learned and practiced. Patience is a gift from the Lord.

Focus Passage: Galatians 5:22-23

Supplemental Passage: Colossians 3:12-13 NASB So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; (13) bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.

Introduction: “Patience is a virtue, Possess it if you can. Found seldom in a woman, Never in a man.”

"Beloved, have you ever thought that someday you will not have anything to try you, or anyone to vex you again? There will be no opportunity in heaven to learn or to show the spirit of patience, forbearance, and longsuffering. If you are to practice these things, it must be now." Yes, each day affords countless opportunities to learn patience. Let’s not waste them.

Hebrews 12:1-3 NASB Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, (2) fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (3) For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

I. Born to be impatient

II. Born again to be patient

III. Patient to offer grace and love to others
