Parts Is Parts

August 2, 2009 Morning Service

Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK

Rick Boyne

Message Point: We each are a vital part in the Body of Christ, the church.

Focus Passage: I Corinthians 12:14-26

Introduction: Wendy’s commercial from 1980’s “What part of the chicken does the nugget come from?” “Parts is parts”

I. Who said you weren’t important?

a. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. (Philippians 2:3-4 NASB)

b. From the least to the greatest, we are all the same in the eyes of God (money, gifts, talents, etc)

c. The problem comes when we look down on others, or look down on ourselves

d. Example of a toothache

II. Who said you were above serving?

a. For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. (Romans 12:3 NASB)

b. Do we think that we aren’t “good enough” to serve?

c. Do we think we’ve already put in our dues and it’s time to let the younger ones take over?

III. What is it you want to do?

a. And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues. (1 Corinthians 12:28 NASB)

b. Until God tells you differently, assume you are the hands to serve. Assume you are the feet to go. Assume you are the arms to comfort. Assume you are the ears to listen, the eyes to see, the mouth to tell.
