Summary: Many people have eyes but cannot see. They need to have a "GIRL LOOK" if they are ever to find Christ. And by that I don't mean I have to be a wimp. I just mean I need to seek Him with all my heart.

Part 9 - Matthew 9:27-31 - HAVE A GIRL LOOK AND YOU'LL FIND IT!

My granddaughter was here yesterday. She is two years old. I pointed out some Pelicans sitting on a pole, but for a long time she could not see them. She didn't know where to look. I should talk. I ask my wife sometimes "Where are the car keys?" She says "Have a girl look and you'll find them". She is saying "Open your eyes!" What a disaster to have your EYES OPEN YET STILL NOT SEE. I guess there are many people who are in the same condition.

The two men in Matthew 9:27 may be blind but they are not stupid. They've obviously been speaking with eachother about Jesus. Perhaps they have already heard Him speak and have decided from what they have heard that Jesus is the Messiah. Romans 10:17 (NLT) says "So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ." Just as well they weren't deaf (just joking).

How did these guys meet? We don't know but they both have the same need. They stick together and seek Jesus. And they verbalise their faith and their need. They do their best to follow Him and persist with their cry for mercy. God's promise from Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV) is still true for me, "You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart."

These men had been blind for some time. Why hadn't God healed them before this time? They had listened to Jesus or heard about Him. They already believed He was the Messiah. Sometimes it seems to take a long time before I receive my miracle. In the process God teaches us more about Himself.

The fact that these two blind men cry out for mercy from the Son of David means that these guys not only know their theology but they've heard about the MERCY OF THE MESSIAH. They've heard that Jesus has had mercy on people who had low status in their society like the man with leprosy and the woman with constant bleeding, and a widow and a child, (even Peter's mother-in-law). Why not blind beggars like them? (I'm presuming they were beggars). GOD'S MERCY EXTENDS TO ANYONE, EVEN TO ME.

Jesus asks the two blind men, "Do you believe I can make you see?" (Matthew 9:28). This gives them the opportunity to clarify where they stand concerning Jesus and give voice to their faith. "Yes, Lord." Hebrews 11:6 (NLT) says "...it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him."

Notice what Jesus does next. He touches their eyes and says, "Because of your faith, it will happen." All it takes on their part is faith in Jesus to heal them. All it takes for Jesus is to touch them, "Then their eyes were opened, and they could see!"

I wonder why it says, "Then their eyes were opened"? Why not just leave it as "and they could see". Matthew isn't one to use extra words normally. Had their eyes been shut? I don't think so. I think he says this because before this time their eyes had been open but they could not see. He wants to emphasise the uselessness of that. It's like having a Ferrari, getting in and turning the key only to find it doesn't start. How frustrating is that? Many people have eyes but cannot see. They need to have a "GIRL LOOK" if they are ever to find Christ. And by that I don't mean I have to be a wimp. I just mean I need to seek Him with all my heart.

I'm not blind when it comes to believing in Christ. I have come to know and love Him as my Lord and Saviour. What about you? If not then here's an opportunity to receive healing and see Jesus for the first time as your Lord and Saviour. By the way, just because I know and love Him doesn't mean that I no longer have to ask Him to reveal areas of my life where I have eyes but cannot see.

God bless you Church as you ask God regularly "Lord, in what ways am I blind? Lord, You who heal the blind, open my eyes to Your truth. Let me always hear the quiet whisper of Your voice and let me always feel the healing touch of Your hand as I call out to You for mercy, today!"
