Summary: THIS STUDY ADDRESSES CHRIST'S PASSION FOR HIS EARTHLY MINISTRY.

OUT OF MIND?

OBSERVATION: CHRIST HAD JUST APPOINTED HIS TWELVE DISCIPLES. HE THEN WENT INTO A HOUSE TO DINE. MARK RECORDS NO MENTION OF WHO OWNED THE HOUSE. A LARGE CROWD GATHERED PREVENTING CHRIST FROM HAVING AN EVENING MEAL.

INTERPRETATION: MARK 3: 21 (NKJV) BUT WHEN HIS OWN PEOPLE HEARD ABOUT THIS, THEY WENT OUT TO LAY HOLD OF HIM, FOR THEY SAID, “HE IS OUT OF HIS MIND”. MARK 3:21 (THE BOOK) WHEN HIS FAMILY HEARD WHAT WAS HAPPENING, THEY TRIED TO TAKE HIM HOME WITH THEM. “HE’S OUT OF HIS MIND, “THEY SAID.

THOUGHTS TO PONDER:

CHRIST’S OWN FAMILY BECAME ALARMED AND WENT TO HIS RESCUE. THEY APPARENTLY THOUGH HIM OVERWORKED, EXHAUSTED AND BORDERING ON MENTAL INCOMPETENCE. THE SCRIBES FROM JERUSALEM ADDED TO THE MIX ACCUSING HIM OF BEING POSSESSED BY BEELZEBUB (LORD OF THE FLIES) IN 2 KINGS 1:4).

CHRIST THREATENED THE STATUS QUO MENTALITY. THE JEWISH LEADERSHIP REJECTED ONE OF THEIR OWN. THEY QUESTIONED HIS CREDENTIALS. HOW COULD THE SON OF A CARPENTER POSSIBLY BE THE MESSIAH, WHICH HE PROCLAIMED TO BE? AFTER ALL, HE ENTERED INTO JERUSALEM ON A DONKEY!

HIS FAMILY MISUNDERSTOOD CHRIST’S DEVOTION TO HIS MINISTRY.

APPLICATION: CHRIST’S OWN FAMILY MISUNDERSTOOD HIS WEARINESS. THEY LACKED PROPER UNDERSTANDING OF HIS MISSION ON EARTH, HIS KNOWLEDGE AND HIS DIVINE APPOINTMENT AS THE SON OF GOD. IS YOUR PASSION FOR THE LORD MISUNDERSTOOD?
