Our Lord’s Passion for Evangelism
Luke 19:10
I. His Ministry Centered on Evangelism
“From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand’”. – Matthew 4:17
A. His mission was the salvation of mankind
“And she shall bring forth a Son and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” – Matthew 1:21
B. His message was one that called people to repentance
C. His message was one that called people to come by faith
Examples from the Gospel of John:
1. He is the living water 4. He is the Resurrection and the life
2. He is the bread of life 5. He is the true vine
3. He is the way, truth and life 6. He is the light of the world
7. He is the Good Shepherd
II. He Involved Himself in Personal Evangelism
A. There are numerous examples of His personal evangelism
1. His disciples
2. The woman at the well (John 4:1-42)
3. Zaccheus (Luke 19:1-10)
4. The Maniac of the Gadarenes (Mark 5:1-20)
5. The rich young ruler (Matthew 19:16-22)
B. There are the elements of Jesus’ personal evangelism
1. He was available
2. He had no favorites when it came to the gospel
3. He was sensitive to sinners
4. He secured a public confession
5. He took time to do it (Mark 5:21-43)
III. He Taught Others to Be Evangelist
“The He said to them, ‘Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men’”. – Matt. 4:19
A. He took common people and turned them into great evangelist
B. What did He teach that we needed to be evangelists?
1. He taught patience
2. He taught courage
IV. He Commanded Us to Evangelize
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you….” – Matt. 28:19-20
How do we gain His Passion for Evangelism?
1. Study Christ – His great love, compassion & mercy
2. Study sin – It’s guilt, power & penalty
3. Study sinners – Cultivate a love and not bitterness for the lost
4. Study scripture and spend time PRAYING
