Summary: What makes our salvation great?

Our Great Salvation

Have you noticed how people carelessly use superlatives?

Superlatives are words like excellent, magnificent, WONDERFUL, marvelous, unsurpassed, unequaled, unparalleled, and BEST.

For ex., someone may say, for 2022 the Kansas City Chiefs were the BEST NFL team in America because they won the Super Bowl! Really? They lost 4 regular season games on their journey to win the Super Bowl 57! So, we’re they really the BEST team?

Usually when superlatives are used the situation or item described is really not that great, awesome, or perfect only to the person talking.

Hebrews chapter 2 uses a superlative that is worthy to describe our salvation. Verse 3 refers to our salvation as great. Our great salvation. This superlative is used rightly so here. Hebrews 2:3 says, “How shall we escape, if we neglect so Great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him.

What makes our salvation great?

1. It is great because it came from our GREAT God and Savior. Verse 3 says salvation was first spoken of by the Lord. God wrote the book on salvation. Salvation is of the Lord. Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith.

2. Our salvation is great because it has brought the GREATEST change to our life. At salvation we were born again. We became a new creation in Christ; old things pass away and all things become new.

3. Salvation is great because it reaches the GREATEST number of people. The whole world. Jesus died for the sins of the whole world. Whosoever calls on him will be saved.

4. Salvation is great because it lasts the GREATEST period of time; eternity. At salvation we received eternal life; life that goes on forever.

5. It is GREAT because it is FREE. Salvation is the free gift of God to all that believe.

6. Our salvation is great because it is the GREATEST part of our life. Our relationship with Christ is the most important part of our life.

7. It is great because it was paid for with the GREATEST price; the death of Christ. The pure, spotless, Lamb of God was the sacrifice given to provide our salvation. This ALONE makes it GREAT!

Because our salvation is so great Verse 3 says we are not to neglect our salvation.

Don’t neglect it! Cherish it, nourish it, grow it, share it, learn more about it.

We nourish it in worship, fellowship, prayer, communion, and Bible study. Enjoy your great salvation!
