Summary: This outline looks at our relationship TO God; our relationship WITH God; and the fellowship we have in the family of God.
OUR DIVINE RELATIONSHIP
“…think on these things.” Philippians 4:8
Let us look at our relationship TO God; our relationship WITH God; and the fellowship we have in the family of God.
I. OUR RELATIONSHIP TO GOD:
1 We are His creation:
“Know you that the Lord He is God: it is He who hath made us, and now we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.” Psalm 100:3
2. We are His children:
“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children then heirs; heirs of God, and joint–heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be glorified together, For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that shall be revealed in us.” Romans 8: 16-18
II. OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD:
1. We are His servants:
“Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God.” Romans 1:1
”But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, you have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life,” Romans 6:22
2. We are His friends:
“And the scripture was fulfilled which says, ‘And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness, and he was called the friend of God.” James 2:23
Jesus said: “You are my friends, if you do whatsoever I command you.” John 15:14
III. THE RESULTING FELLOWSHIP:
1. With the God the Father and God the Son:
“That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.” I John 1:3
2. With God the Holy Spirit:
“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen.” II Corinthians 13:14
3. With one another in the family of God:
“But if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.” I John 1:7
The chorus written by Mark Blankenship captures what it means to be "In the Family of God".
"The family of God is born from above,
A special bond drawn together by love;
Knowing and caring, feeling and sharing,
Living together in the family of God."
